Im always getting asked for directions

How often do you get asked for directions? It's happened me a lot over the last while. Is it supposed to mean something? Do you have to have a certain look or demeanour that makes them stop and ask or just mere coincidence?

I often get asked for directions, at least once a week, but I figure that's because I live in a city and cities are always teeming with tourists. I hardly ever have a clue where I am or where I'm going myself (I used to use landmarks as guides before voice navigation on my phone), so I'm terrible at giving anyone else directions. I either tell them I'm not from around here myself, or if they have a smartphone I can punch in the location and show them that way.

I don't think it means anything really only when you're lost, anyone who's still moving seems to know where they're going so they probably have a good idea where you're supposed to be too. How wrong they are...

I don't think I have any particular demeanor though, it's more likely just random chance, whoever happens to be the nearest person to them that doesn't look like they're likely to pull a knife on them :pac:

We have a number on our front door, lots of people around don't. For some reason people come to the door and ask us about other houses - where is number 16, do you know of any McGillycuddies around here? They seem to think that because we know our number we must know everyone else's :rolleyes:

I hate getting asked directions. I usually cant remember the road until just after they drive off and I've sent them the wrong way.

Or you get ignoramus ' s that don't ask. One guy rolled down the window "The Beach!"

You think you have it bad? Almost every city I've been to in the world, I've been asked for directions. It happened in Lisbon, when I was basically lost myself, trying to find my way back to the hotel by dead reckoning. London, Malaga, Toronto - check. It happened in Houston, Texas, and by chance I was actually able to help. Wherever I go, I must look like a local.

The two exceptions have been (a) Bangalore, where I had a driver and never hit the streets, and (b) Jacksonville, Florida, because my friends live miles out in the suburbs and I never got to the city centre on my sole visit so far. I'm back there next month, we'll see then.
