Right motor heads..... Have a question for you.... Was working for a plumbing company but contract is up so I need to buy a van for myself so I can go earn a few quid!!!
I'm not rich or anything so I'm gonna spend about 2gs on one! I have a primera I'm going to try sell for a few pounds towards! Anytips or anything I should know about buying old vans!?

Why don't you try to use the Primera, or is it too small?

Personally I'd rather struggle for a bit with the Primera and then get the van if it's something you are going to pursue. At the end of the day you know what the Primera is like and won't have to risk it buying an old van.

Its very hard to find a decent van nowadays, especially with that budget.

Do the back seats fold flat in the Primera? Would it be worth getting chipboard made up for the back of it and you could have all your bits in there?

That's what I was thinking. The Primera isn't a small car and if you can deal with jimmying things in through the side doors then I think it would be a better option, at least for the time being.

OP are you talking about a full size van like a Transporter or a smaller type van like a Caddy?

That's a good plan but to be honest the primera is a 1.6 petrol, and it's eating petrol on me.... Plus the insurance on a van is a lot less then being insured on the car!!!

But at the same time it's also probably a lot more reliable than a diesel van.

For that kind of money it will be hard to get a van in good shape as vans are battered around every day compared to a normal car.

I'd find an old 1.9d berlingo SDI caddy or something like that.

Mk 6 transits are a great old workhorse and easy fix at home. Only thing to be weary of is rust. Under sills, and around door rubbers. Give them a good check over.

Of course, the same as if a car had rust.

It is come doe/cvrt time. Rust can often prove alot worse than it seems at first glance.

Was in same position as you a while ago, had bout 2k for a decent van and ideally wanted a bigger van looked at a few transits but at that money they were very rough or bad with rust

Got a nice tidy clean caddy tdi van owned by aul man past 7 years used it for his dogs, the smaller vans I looked at were in alot better condition at the budget I had

Clean looking Opel Combo, says it only has 72k on the clock, be worth checking if its genuine or not:
