Anybody come across a problem with the Nikon D5300 DSLR, when looking through the viewfinder the focus points and framing grid are replaced by a red flashing circle and grid.

    Thanks all

    2 thoughts on this,

First check the lens and make sure you have not switched it to manual focus mode - its the M/MA switch on the barrell.

Second is that You could be in single point focus mode.
Hit the i button and scroll to AF area mode setting, second row of icons 3rd one in.
If it is set on single point AF change it to Auto area Af.
When you look back through the view finder you should have the AF aray showing as you focus across what is in the view finder.

After that im out of ideas as to what is happening.

Have you tried doing a Reset?

On (most) Nikons there will be two buttons with green dots beside them. Turn on the camera then press and hold them for two seconds. This will return the camera settings to the defaults.
