Arthritis in Shoulder

For a number of years I've had a painless clicking in my shoulder I recently got an mri and spoke to a consultant about it. I've since diagnosed with the early stages of arthritis in the shoulder - it's not clear what's causing the clicking. In reality it's raised more questions than its answered. I'm just wondering if anyone is suffering with something similar and what there experiences are?
Also I curious of people's experiences with consultants in the issue and if there is a consultant specialising in shoulders they might recommend. Is there someone with a good reputation who is worth talking to?

Sports clinic in Santry Dublin is excellent. They have good consultants and excellent physio

What type of arthritis is it ? There are loads of different type.

Do you need anything done with your shoulder yet ?

There is a good facebook page if you are under 50 by Arthritis Ireland.

I agree with the other poster in that Santry Sports Clinic is a great place to start, I saw one of their shoulder specialists Ruth Delaney earlier this year and found her great.

First of all get yourself to a good physio that specialises in shoulders either through Sports Surgery Clinic or otherwise. EVERYBODY has some degree of arthritis in their joints it is part of the aging process and while diagnostic imaging is a fantastic tool it may not be the definitive cause of your symptoms.

You said that your main presenting symptom is/was a painless clicking in your shoulder. There are a number of other conditions that can cause this I.e. Hyper/Hypo mobility, a stiff thoracic spine, tight pectoral muscles, weak scapular stabilisers etc. Any of these left unaddressed may lead to more symptomatic shoulder joint changes in time so it is well worth getting it assessed and addressed in the near future.

Addressing a problem non operatively before it is causing pain I.e. significant damage has been caused can in many cases put off the need for surgery indefinitely.

Even if you do require a surgical intervention addressing any of the above, if they are present, will mean that you will have a better outcome both pre- and post operatively.

    Good luck

Thanks for the replys everyone. It's osteoarthritis after my consultation and after taking some time to time to think things over I've got questions I'd like to ask and I think it would be no harm to see someone else ask my questions and get their opinion. I'm think the arthritis is as a result of the clicking rather that the cause of it.
My experience with Physios hasn't filled me with confidence to be honest I've feel I've waisted time and money on people who had no real understanding of what was wrong and just assumed x or y.
I've done considerable stretching of my chest and strengthen of my back to no avail. I'm currently doing some external extensions but having no effect.
