Smyths Carrickmines sale

Popped into Smyths this Thursday and the half of the shelves were empty and taken down. All of the items I have seen had a marked down price sticker. Many of them had a laughable markdown, but some items did had bigger discounts.

Might be worth checking for someone in the area and looking for toys

Don't go there for the LEGOs, heavy discounts only on the pricey items (e.g. Minecraft kit down form 120 to 80)

That shop is normally busy...surprised that it would be closing down. Pity too...it is our nearest Smyths.
But thanks for the tip OP, will nip over today.

Perhaps not, some already have in other parts of Ireland. Franchised store?

Jump to conclusions much? I would imagine they are rearranging their shelves. I've been in there a few times and seen the place in similar condition.

BTW their Lego is always overpriced so they can add discount stickers which bring the Lego back to rrp.

Smyths stores have a sale starting Tuesday next, some sort of clearance sale so they can stock up for christmas, they're taking stuff off the shelves repricing them and supposed to be putting back the reduced items on Tuesday. Lots about it on beady eye bargains Facebook page. Probably worth dropping in Tuesday morn.

Smyths have never closed a store except when relocating.
Carrickmines is their second busiest store.

They don't operate a franchise - every Smyths store in UK and Ireland is owned by the Smyth brothers and headquartered in Galway.

They do have a long standing purchase agreement with Ken Black in portlaoise / carlow which goes back to when both were small operators and even though it's a gentleman's agreement, it continues to this day.

As above, it's probably a clearout for launching Christmas collections - yep, August sees Christmas deliveries into retail

Carrickmines is their second busiest store.

There's no way it's closing, every time I've been there, it's always packed.
PC World, HN, Currys, Woodies, TK Max & McDonalds would be big crowd pullers along with free parking.
It does well for a Retail Park that doesn't have Argos, Aldi or Lidl (probably because the rents are so high) and the car parks are always full.

Sorry for posting it here. Conclusion? It is with a question mark - no conclusion there. The store looked like after an apocalypse, the actual shelves were taken off.

That was a toy store called World of Wonder, not Smyths. And it closed a lot more than 2 years ago.

I was in the bray store on Monday and no sign of it closing down. If they sold everything it sold quick. I would imagine they simply sent the stock to other stores particularly the high value stock.

The reason the shelves are empty is that they are just being put up. For summer they have swings, slides etc all on display. At the end of summer they remove this display and replace it with shelves. It takes up a large enough area
