Stoner question of the evening....

Will human interaction with their pets eventually create an intelligent species? (No! Not in the way you're thinking, you utter filth-bags!)

If evolution is the inheritance of useful traits in a species down through the generations, and humans value nothing more in the animals that they've domesticated as pets then for their non human companions to understand, respond and amuse them with clever tricks, then isn't it possible that some day, since we've selectively bread animals that have these traits, that a pet is going to turn around and tell it's owner to 'eff off and stop judging him for licking his balls?

Well, if that movie 'Idiocracy' is to be believed, it's possible that we'll meet our pets half way.....

I figure given how long we've been breeding dogs, if they've not done it already, they're probably not going to.

You might be able to train him to pass the joint though, but a cat? Never.

    yes

They're a selfish animal. I wouldn't be in the least surprised if they had already wised up and were currently plotting our downfall.

I think it would have to do with a species capacity to learn. Every species has its own limit.

Maybe dogs have already past us. After all, we walk them, buy their food, pay for all their needs and give them belly rubs on demand.

Edit: and they get away with riding in public and not giving two fecks about it.

So, my theory is that when we invent some sort of neural interface and can basically just think to everyone else rather than speaking someone will hook up their dog cos its 'cute'. With speech barriers removed and more and more animals connected certian species shoot ahead of us in a matter of a few generations and we get wiped out by neural controlled weaponry.

Basically, rover controlling Skynet, fetch this fcuker....

I'd alter the theory that we usually like friendly / obedient cats and dogs and that we may breed them so that ultimately the average cat / dog has better social skills / basic command following ability than the average person, particularly given the amount of time a lot of us continue to spend on computers / in front of the box / at the bottom of society.

The most pertinent question of the evening is why grown men still think the gibberish that enters their consciousness when stoned is worthy of posting on a relatively popular message board forum. Pipe dreams.
