2nd wired connection in UPC horizon home?

    Hi all,

I've been racking my brain with this for a while. Finally admitted defeat, and thought someone else might have a good idea.

I currently have a UPC Horizon box in my sitting room. Using a wired connection toba couple of devices, one of which absolutely needs a wired connection.

I recently started working from home, and turned one of the rooms into an office. There is of course a wireless connection in the house (using a different router that i've plugged into the Horizon box, for better range).
However, for the kind of work that I do, I very often need a wired connection, which means I have to move into the sitting room. My couch was not made for working from it all day.

Other than using a 30m long cable and run it to the office, which is on the other side of the house and as such, impractical (I know there won't be any packet loss that way) what else could I do in order to have a wired connection in the office?
There's an active UPC box in there (there's multiroom in the house), with the old school box.

Is there any way I can get a second wired connection, in the office, with my current setup? Suffice to say, purchasing any new equipment is not something that would put me off.

Was gonna ring UPC, but last time I rang about something "out of ordinary", it turned into a lengthy phone call with no real answers.

    Any and all suggestions appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Anthi

The easiest solution would be to use homeplugs

Yep, you'd buy a pair of homeplugs in Argos for €35 or so

Why wont a wireless access point do? You can use these for devices that need a wired connection...

    Hi guys.

A wireless connection won't do because it's not as reliable and I need as less packet loss as possible. I'm a penetration tester, and when sniffing packets, reliability is of importance, so I use a wired connection when performing such tasks.

Thanks for the suggestion of the home plugs. Don't really know much about them (other than they exist), so I'll definitely do a bit of research on them and see if they suit my requirements.

Thank you all for the replies, much appreciated! :)
