Just wondering if anyone has any verdict on this novel either teaching it or if your child read it in school. There is a set of novels in my school and I was thinking of using them with my class in September!

I've seen forum below too for ideas.

Did they enjoy it while reading it and did they cover a lot in relation to it while reading it?

I did this with 6th class a few times. It's grand, but doesn't actually deal with many aspects of the war itself, if you're looking for a good cross-curricular link, where you could get a history lesson out of a chapter. It opens with details of evacuees being chosen by families, etc, but after that it's a completely different story, about the two children and their experiences with host family and other locals. I thought the ending wasn't great either.
That said, it's a nice story with good vocabulary and is definitely age appropriate. But it's the kind of book I get through quickly with a 6th class, we would read a chapter in school and then they would read a chapter at home, so we'd whizz through it quite quickly and not get loads out of it. If you're focussing on the Battle of Britain and the life of a child in Wartime Britain then it's a nice read, it just doesn't give a whole lot of historical context. Hope that helps!
