Pretty much everything published by joe.ie, her.ie and the other sites under that umbrella falls under that description.

    And it works.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

The Daily Mail is one of the few newspapers who make enough money from their site to continue with their current access-for-all model. It's reviled around here, but it's a site that 10's of millions of people visit each day. Guess what? People get off on collective outrage.

Sites like the Guardian are trying to get people to sign-up to their site using a softly-softly 'please join so we can continue this' approach. The Irish Times are putting up a soft paywall. The Times of London have gone behind a paywall. None of these models appear to be working.

Vulture sites like Joe.ie and Journal.ie steal stories from all the above sites, and pass them off as their own. It's a model that works as long as there are sites further up the food chain to support them.

People don't want to pay for quality journalism. The end result is a mish-mash of celeb tat, forced outrage and sponsored articles.

That's fairly harsh on the Daily Mail.

Joe.ie is a website that annoys me to irrational levels. it just seems so pointless, there's no craft or personality to it, just lift a viral video from somewhere, post in a few 'witty' memes and write a lazy, appeal-to-the-proles blurb. there's probably bigger examples of this (idk, Buzzfeed or something, i'm not as aware of what their M.O. is), but this is one website that just makes me cringe on a daily basis when i see people liking/sharing/retweeting their stuff. the whole 'the voice of irish men' thing as well, just ugh.

I heard your man on 4FM saying his listeners where more intelegent than journal and boards users the other day. What his name. The talk show lad. 4fm the 98fm retirement home.

I really do not like the way they re-cycle old news trying to make it sound like it's current, just so they can garner higher views. I know why they do but unique content would entice me into the site more rather than re-cycled 'articles' with very mis-leading titles.

I think a lot of people would be willing to pay for quality journalism. Thing is, there's not nearly enough of them.

Our need to be loved and to have people love our games and our culture is embarrassing, but Joe.ie know how to exploit it.

They used to hire journalists now they hire content creators. That will tell you everything about what they are trying to achieve. It will backfire on them eventually but lots of Irish people get tricked by this stuff.

The only people who are constantly trashing the Daily Mail are liberals who don't like/understand their editorial stances.

It's not a bad newspaper at all. I know what poor journalism looks like and recognize where they do it. However pretty much every newspaper has crappy pieces. The thing about the DM is that at least they don't take themselves too seriously, they don't say "here is the truth, accept or you're an ignorant bigot", it's more like "here's the DM's take on it".

There's also a Joe.co.uk as well. So that just replace Irish with British and write an entire article about a tweet that Gary Neville sent to Gary Linekar followed by an Anchorman gif and finally a advert for red bull.

Which is still better than Her.ie, who usually pick up stories about six days after everyone else has already read and forgotten about it.

I have a general rule with joe.ie and pages like The Lad Bible and Unilad- if their headline states something about an athlete or an upcoming highly anticipated sports event, it is almost guaranteed to be click bait bollocks not to be clicked under any circumstances. A case in point would be the Mayweather vs Pacquaio fight last May- before the deal to hold the fight was signed and finalised, there must have been a dozen times when the above three pages would put up a "News Just In: The Fight is On" that without even clicking you knew was going to be nothing more than speculation and hearsay for a clickbait.

To be fair though, it gets a lot of stick but there is not one other news provider that covers as many UK and Worldwide news in depth as the Daily Mail online edition.

Did anyone see the joe.ie Facebook on their feed earlier, regarding a young lad missing in Dublin?

The headline read "Search for XXX XXX is postponed".

The status read "Important news regarding the search for missing Dublin man XXXXX".

As in, we aren't going to tell you why it's been postponed. If you want to know has he been found safe, found dead or found to have been acting the muppet, please click here now!

Sweet mother of fuuck, they are now relying on missing people to feed their clickbait. I find it bad enough waiting for the sports news to load about a transfer, imagine being friends or family of this chap waiting those few seconds to load the page from these vermin to find out what was happening.

joe.ie has been worse than DM for as long as I can remember. At least DM attempts to present itself as news in between the pictures of single mothers on benefits looking miserable and girls facebook pictures.

Spot on. That put me off it, along with the misleading headlines the OP referred to.
The odd post on joe.ie out of a 100 "might" be funny but the other 99 just seem to try to hard to hit that "whacky/college dude" vibe.

I am starting to think that Conor McGregor writes everything on the website which would explain a lot! :)

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

A few days ago they intro'd some story about rugby and Conor McGregor (they managed to link them somehow) with some guff about "had he not taken up MMA hard as nails McGregor could have surely turned out as a fine centre half for Ireland".

Some lad on the comments clawed in a fair few likes by questioning how far their McGregor obsession had gone when they thought a barely 10 stone 5 foot something lad would be a capable rugby international :pac:

Ah I wouldnt be too hard on joe .ie on this one , they're just reporting a very topical story about David Cameron trying to restrict free porn. This is important right now because there are many disgusting, vile videos, for example necrophiliac bestiality involving pig cadavers. This is also important because of who might be starring in those videos :)
