US citizen looking for info on remaining in Ireland

I'm coming to the end of my 3 month stay. When I called into the office in Dublin they said I had to have a 30,000 yearly income. Or I could go to the uk then come back into Ireland. Can someone explain in simple terms the easiest way to stay. Marriage is not an option. Thanks in advance.
