Okay I'm not a fan of wearing fake tan & I was hoping to get a natural tan this summer but with the wonderful summer we are getting that's not going to happen! Does anybody have any recommendations for a good spray tan (not too dark & not orange)? Also one that does not smell too heavily or transfer on dress?

Cocoa Brown. I rarely wear fake tan (only if I'm wearing a dress etc) and this stuff is amazing.

It has a colour guard so you can see where you've applied tan etc. It supposedly develops within one hour, personally, I prefer to leave it on for 2-3 hours and its much nicer, a very, very natural colour.

Doesn't transfer, dries quickly, doesn't have a strong fake tan smell either.

You can get it in Penneys, Boots, Dunnes, Heatons, and loads of pharmacies. Its around €7 a bottle and it lasts for ages.

You can get travel size too which is a bit cheaper so great to try out and see if it suits.

I've used this tan and slept in crisp white bedding and there wasn't a single mark on the sheets at all, it dries really quickly and I've found, that when it dries any tan scent disappears.

This tan doesn't go patchy on elbows, knees, knuckles etc. in my experience at least.

Id also recommend this, you could try it with an hour on first and see if that's the colour your after, then try 2/3 hours. You can get it done in salons too if your scared of making a mistake

also has anybody ever got a St Tropez spray tan, & if so would they recommend?

Just in case. Everyone is different. Cocoa Brown does not suit me. I find the color very fake looking & it fades patchy on my skin. I love natural looking tan. I love vita liberata. People always say to me "oh you've lovely sallow skin". I use the fair (there"s darker). It fades gradually, no patches. Worth a try. I also like fake bake. Both have colour guides.
You can get spray tan in all of these.. maybe you'd get suggestions if we know your location.

Not a fan of cocoa brown at all. I find it smells and the colour doesn't develope after 1 hour or 3 for that matter, it definitely streaks on me, and leaves stains, cannot understand the hype about it at all.

I use dove gradual tan since i stopped getting spray tans, only used to get them for special occasions, but i now swear by dove.

Darn sunshine.. Im not into the tans also and tried out jus the home moisturiser ones. The Dove one is lovely it doesn't seem to come off I wore a white bra and top with it on one day and it didn't budge. mind I was not dancing or anything so not sure how it behaves then

I'd go with Vita Liberata, had it done for a wedding and it was fab!

I've wore dove on my arms a few times to weddings and different events and it was fine. However, my bridesmaid put it on her legs and said it was awful.

I really don't know what to do. Half considering a sunbed. Don't want a heavy spray tan either

Yeah, if the sun doesn't shine before the big day I'm gonna do maybe 2 sunbeds just to take the blue look away ☺

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭GalwayGrrrrrl

I did a short course of sun beds before my wedding- was too afraid of fake tan looking orange or rubbing off on dress. I have never used a sunbed since as they age the skin and increase risk of skin cancer - but so does sunbathing outside so I took the risk.

I'm trying out sunbeds this year as a trial for my wedding next year. I am quite pale so I started off with 3 mins by 2 sessions. I've had a 4 and a 5 min session. Only barely starting to see a diff in colour so will Def need few more to make a difference. Going on hols next sat so hoping to fit 3 more in before I go.
I've never used sunbeds before and will only use them for wedding next year and that's it. I just didn't really want fake tan for my wedding even though I do wear it for nights out.

Ive only ever being happy with St Tropez spray tan..its a more natural shade imo.

Has anyone tried the heshi tan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,658 ✭✭✭Milly33

Right the sun is out in cork I'm out there!! Ladies get out there and start tanning while we have it

I kinda found that with the dove too on the legs I think with me it was that I didn't have the patience for it to dry.... Happy tanning today ladies

I didnt bother with tan at all and thought i looked fine with an ivory dress. I will post photos at some stage. Im very pale of the freckles variety as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,653 ✭✭✭✭amdublin

Is there any tan out there that does not have that awful fake tan smell?

    Me - I don't think so.

I don't recommend smelling of fake tan for the day or your wedding night (my husband hates when I wear it now).

I'd avoid fake tan if I were y'all tbh.

Bronze express dries quickly & doesn't smell. There's so many out there I think its worth finding a safe way to tan.

Imo you cannot get a fake tan (that develops) without the smell...the smell is essentially the chemicals that is causing the colour...

I think for your wedding day better go au natrel (i.e. no sunbeds no fake tan)

Ingredients is a better word than chemicals :)

Well I can agree, a beautiful natural looking bride.
But if you want a tan there's also wash off, no dha, no smell. & even using the spray tans, once you've showered (especially nice gel & body lotion) there shouldnt be a smell.

Subtlety is key with bridal fake tan and make up. I saw a wedding today and the bridesmaids were just caked in make up, they just went too far.

I use Lancôme flash bronzer and I find it fantastic but I only put on a light coat and I let it dry for an hour and if I'm going somewhere, I'll shower and wash the residue off the next day and to get rid of the smell. To me it's looks natural but I think fake tan will develop according to the pigment of your skin so best to try out a few different brands.

Holl and & Barrett do Tan Tablets, I haven't tried them but saw them in the beauty pages of a magazine & they seem to have good reviews on the website.

Has anyone tried the heshi tan?

A friend just recommend this one to me tonight...its what she used in her wedding. I barely even knew she was wearing tan. She recommended getting it done 2 days before

I find cocoa brown and St tropez the best fake tans and I have tried nearly every spray tan there is. Imo wow brown, crazy angel, he shi, vita libera and fake bake aren't the best for a wedding. I had a trial with the vita libera and found once applied it looked very uneven and wore off extremely patchy. The other ones I've mentioned there look too orangey/dark for a wedding. A lot of that will have much to do with your skin type however. Because as you can see some people rate different tans more highly than others. And this could also be to do with how it is applied. Fake tan obviously stinks when it's first out on. But tbh, once you've showered there shouldn't really be any smell at all? I used to used fake tan the whole time and never once was there a smell once youve showered the initial layer off.

Anyways, I swear by cocoa brown 1 hour tan now. I rarely get to use it as I never really go out now. But it suits me as I can do it myself and don't have to go through the whole beautician spray tan process. I leave it on around 2 hours and shower. It goes on extremely well, and on my skin just fades as opposed to coming off in patchy flakes like every other tan I've tried.

I would recommend St tropez for a wedding spray tan. It looks very natural. It's what I used on my wedding day. And you can just ask the beautician to make it look like a natural tan and not too dark. I would always gets 2 light-medium layers done. The main thing is to get a couple trials and go with someone that is great at doing a spray tan. Many beauticians are actually crap at doing them tbh. I've been to many and only found 2-3 beauticians who were able to do them with no streaks and gave an even tan. So that's important aswell.

Also if you do decide to use fake tan. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturise really well the day before getting the tan. This will help the tan go on evenly and will hopefully prevent it coming on in patchy flakes.

I think the main thing to take away from this thread is to try everything yourself to work out what suits you. I swear by Cocoa Brown and hate HeShi and a few others mentioned by people here as good. So it really comes down to your own skin! You want it to look natural but it's also important to see how well it wears off.

OP, seriously you will not get a long-wear fake than that doesn't smell - you might not notice the smell yourself, but I have a nose like a bloodhound (because the smell literally makes me gag) and believe me, I can tell you that every fake tan smells.

Ladies who are sun-bedding - please, PLEASE don't. Its not the same as sunning in your back garden and it's really not worth it just for one day, plus you are all gorgeous already :)

If you wanted to take the blue look off OP, would you consider something like MAC Face & Body? It kind of evens you out without being fake tan-y if you get me and might be worth a look.

I'd go for vita liberata too. It's a lovely spray tan

Id take fake tan smell any day over orange marks on the dress!
If she gets a 1 hour tan done the morning before the wedding there's no way she'll still smell the next day if she showers. That'd be my advice for no smell no marks and a light tan for the big day. St tropez and cocoa brown have 1 hour tans out.

+1. My husband would always give out about the stink of tan when id get a spray tan or put it on myself. But he never ever said anything about it once i had showered. He actually said it was grand once id had the shower and that it only smelt before (and this is when he was right beside me in bed!). If you are worried about the smell tho you could alwyas apply a nice moisturiser after your shower (which would be recommended anyway) and you will be smelling lovely! :)

Whatever tan you go for do it 2 days before the wedding not one, that is key.

Have 2 showers on the tan not one. That gets rid of the smell.

The last wedding I was at when the bride was walking up the aisle I coudl see fake tan on her wedding dress (underneath the arm) I was thinking to myself how could you let that happen......

My guess is that her spray tan went wrong and she tried using some instant stuff on teh day to fix it up, I can't think of any other reason fake tan would get on your wedding dress? I mean surely no bride would be foolish enough to wear instant tan on the day instaed of putting tan on 1-2 days previously letting it come up, having a shower and then put on the dress?

I got married in France and it wasn't possible to get a spray tan, so I just did my own on the Thursday night (wedding was Saturday). Was so stressed out about it, but it was grand. If you've been able to do it before youu can do it again! Used Wow Brown for Irish skin.
