Hi I'm looking for some advice. We bought a terrace victorian with old double glaze pvc windows. It looks into a very busy road and the noise at the front is driving us nuts.
We want to change the windows ideally to sash style windows, we don't want secondary glazing.
Any advice welcomed. I've seen lots of companies in the uk that do soundproof windows but few here. Pilkington do optiphon and heard internorm. Also heard triple glaze is no guarantee
    Thanks

1 no such thing as sound proof windows so can you post a link or two to what you saw in UK
The best you can do is try achieve a low level of noise transmission, which will come through the glass, frame, opes and gaps around the frame.
These gaps need to be filled with solid, dense material and not foam

Sash windows are contra-indicated for good sound reduction.

Have you any wall vents in the front walls?

Could you plant some shrubs along the boundary, very effective

I stayed in a hotel in Germany recently on the 7th floor that looked out, at eye level, at the traffic on the elevated autobahn which was about 20 meters away.

It had seven layers of glass and seven sets of seals and when the window was shut tight there was no sound in room.
When I just moved the lever to loosen the seals the noise started and when fully open ....
