    Hello all!!
I'm in position where my boss wants to cut my hours from 35 to 20 per week.

    My situation
My husband works part time 25-30 hours
I have small 2 kids one of them sick and currently being assessed.
We both have jobs that aren't greatly paid( and I am not complaining) but cutting my hours will cause us financial problems

So my question is if that really happens can I Get help from goverment? I know that there is some kind of help for low income families

    Any advice greatly appreciated!!

You may qualify for Family Income Support (FIS) if your combined income is below the threshold. The limit for your situation is €602 per week. You then get a minimum of €20 per week or 60% of the difference between your income and the limit.

If your working part time I think you can claim some unemployment benefits for the days your not working however you may not get much depending on your combined income with your partner, either that or FIS which is probably a better option.

Thank you for that. After checking that I see that we would qualify for FIS. I suppose all I need now is a letter from my employer.

No, you need to download the FIS form and fill it out than give it to your employer to fill out and then send it away.

Because you have had a drop in hours, make sure you attach a letter telling them that your hours have decreased and that you dont want them to calc your rate based on your previous weeks earnings. they may try to do this, if they do, refuse the rate and appeal it.

It true that you are entitled to a JSA JSB payment for the days you have lost, if this rate would be more than FIS, the dept will advise you of this and you will be told to apply for this instead.
