Facilitation of Arthritis sufferers in Work

3 years ago I was diagnosed as having arthritis in my knees, one knee pretty badly.
I have just been diagnosed with arthritis in one of my hips and lower back vertebrae now. I am only 40 years old.
I drive to and from work 50 minutes each way on mostly a bumpy road. My employer has an office 5 minutes from my home. I am considering asking to work from the closer office. Do I have any rights as an arthritis sufferer to be accomodated.
My doctor is reluctant to write a letter recommending me working from the closer office until I've had a few months physio.
I'm in constant pain driving to and from work.
Anyone know what rights I have ?

If you are on Facebook, there is a great page for us under 50's. I use the page and many of us have had hip/knee replacements in our 30's already. Good place to moan at times.

Here is a leaflet that you may find useful : http://www.arthritisireland.ie/go/fit_for_work/employer.

If you have degenerative arthritis, it will get to the point of you needing a replacement and holding that off as early as possible would be best for you, physio and swimming are two excellent ways to help with pain and mobility.

Send me a pm if you need to know anything.
