Just back from the annual 2 week holiday in the sun- Spain.

I react very badly to insect bites, coming out in golfball sized lumps as soon as I'm bitten. I take anti histimane tablets for the whole summer.

Every year on holiday, in addition to the anti histimane tablets, I carefully apply anti mosquito spray every day. Despite this, I always get bitten a couple of times over the course of the holiday.

This year was different. For the first time ever I have returned without a single bite. I took the advice of a nurse, who used to work with the Americans Veterans Assosiciation, had given me a few years ago. She advised taking a shot of cider vinnegar every morning.

I can honestly say that the only difference between this years holiday and previous years, was that single shot glass of cider vinnegar every morning. I still took all the other precautions with sprays and anti histimane tablets etc

I don't know how it works, I suspect that it slowly oozes out in my sweat, the same way that curry does, and the insects don't like the taste of it, and move on.

Because nobody, neither pharmaecutical companies, chemists nor advertising companies are making large sums of money out of the sale of cider vinnegar, nobody hears about it.

Cider vinnegar sells E2-E3 per 3/4 lr bottlebottle in the supermarket. The bottle that I used was still 1/2 full when I left.

Don't get me wrong, a shot of cider vinnegar is not a particularly pleasant drink. It's not, but it's a hell of a lot more pleasant than having bites ruining the holiday.

Other members of the family were bitten. Maybe next year we will all return in one piece.

Does anyone else use cider vinnegar?

Yup, although my wife likes the taste of it.

Citronella Candles are also a good deterrent
