Tattooing over scars?

    I want a particular tattoo on my arm but there's a few scars in the way. They're about eight years old, the cuts were pretty deep and never stitched or treated properly. They're between 5mm to 1cm thick and slightly raised.

    Most of the information I've found on tattooing scars is pretty general 'it depends' sort of stuff. Does anyone have any solid information on this kind of thing, or know of artists who have experience with tattooing scars?

    Unfortunately, it really does just depend. Depends on the scars, the placement, the design. Everything to do with the tattoo.

    As for the artists, there's very few that specialise in tattooing over scars. You're best bet is to think about the design you want and work from there.

    I have the design, I just want to know if its possible before I really get my heart set on it. Its not a cover up I'm looking for, I don't really care if the scars are still noticeable, it would just look stupid to leave them blank when everything around them is tattooed.
