    Hi,

We're at the tail end of a house build trying to finish up the decoration so we can finally move into the place!

Perhaps naively, we got in touch with a local crowd who came to the house to measure for carpets, curtains etc.

We have 5 bedroom windows in total. 2.6m high ceiling, window dimensions are all around 157cm height x 115cm width (so not very big) but was planning to run them to the floor as no rads under window.

Plan was to put curtains on 4 windows and roman blind on last one (as its in a multi-purpose room!!)

Cost I got was €2200 for poles, fitted, black out faux silk curtains. Apparently the fauk silk is €20 yard.

If I take out say, €200 for blind, that would mean €500 a window??? Is that not way over-priced?

I'm completely clueless as to what to expect from made to measure curtains vs ready made so hoping someone can enlighten me if this is a good deal/fair deal/bad deal?

I know my mam paid €1800 for 4 pairs of curtains a few years ago. I don't obviously know the measurements of the windows off the top of my head, but They sound similar enough to yours, and down to the floor also. The place she got them is known for being quite expensive (she heard afterwards!!). It's probably worth your while getting prices in a few places to compare!

Those prices sound fair to me considering they are custom made. If too expensive for your budget you could go for ready made curtains in Homefocus, Homestore, Harry Corrys, Next etc. Measure up yourself and have the assistant in store advise which widths suit best. You can pay anywhere from €100-€250 per window for readymades versus €500 upwards per window for custom made. Hope that helps.

It hard to judge but approx 200-300 for the make depending on the style and size, and then whatever for the material. Material off a roll is much cheaper than from a book as it is in stock. And it also depends on window size. Ours are quite large so that would be three lengths - so it adds up. 8.5ft windows wide are approx 800-900E. HomeFocus are not necessarily cheaper. We found the more 'expensive' option gave better advice on colours, came out to the house to measure and gave better bang for buck for such an expense. I also think that curtains are always have and always will be an expense. Like everything, eh.
