Hi, I'm looking at trading in/selling my car but I think my cert may have been thrown out.
If I request a new one from Shannon how long does this normally take?

    A week to ten days.

I went into the Dublin Motor Tax Office on a Monday morning a couple of months ago to get a new VRC and it arrived on the Thursday

So you don't need to send anything to Shannon? You can go down in person to a tax office?

Print off and fill this form:
    https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/RF134_en.pdf

Then get it stamped by the Gardai. Go into your local motor tax office and hand it in along with €12. Shannon will then post you out a replacement Log Book within a working week.

Grand so, doesn't sound like such a pain in the ass now.

Just wondering though is it the same for change of details/ownership? It only takes a week and you can drop into a tax office rather than risk posting.

    No it's not the same.
The form for VLC replacement states that you must send it to your local motor tax office.
The back of the VLC (when changing ownership) says that you must send it to Shannon.
You would rarely hear of one going missing....you can keep an eye on it at motortax.ie to check when they receive it.
