Insurance nearly doubled this year??

My insurance for my car ( brand new one) was €675 odd last year.

My premium for much older car for this year is quoted at €1265.

I have 5+ years no claims bonus.

I was involved in a car crash in August 2014. My insurance company paid for the repair on my car but did nothing about getting the money from other persons insurance. I challenged them on this but little happened. I eventually instructed solicitors on the case and eventually the insurance company for the other driver said they were in a position to deal with all claims arising. The first claim was the repair of the car and return all monies owed to my insurance and this duly happened restoring my NCB. I have have a outstanding claim for other costs with the other insurance company and this is going through process.

So my insurance company want to charge me nearly 50% more to insure me this year . I know insurance has gone up but like not 50% . They say it has nothing to do with the crash as far as they are concerned the matter was dealt with satisfactorily . Of course it was I got their money back.

I have sought quotes from a number of companies and so far all refuse on the basis I have an outstanding claim.

    So question !

Is there anything I can do ?
Is there any insurance company that will quote me under the circumstances ?
I must admit I really dislike my insurance company iv had to fight and argue with them over every single detail of my crash and the process .they are full of Nonsence !

Any advice I don't want to pay € 1200 for insurance

I'd love to tell them to go shove it. Cornmarket originally quoted 695 until they knew there was a claim not resolved. The car is 02 Volvo s40. Insurance company have told me it is not due to age of car . I asked

I think I read on a thread somewhere that FBD are trying to exit car insurance and hiking premiums to discourage renewals.

I have no source for that though, nor do i know if its true, so do your own research.

Very surprised that your insurer didn't seek recovery after repairing your vehicle. The fact that your solicitor achieved success is an indicator that the facts were on your side. Recovery is an important part of the finances of an insurer because if you consider, for instance, if an insurer pays you €10k, that is worth around 20 new business cases so it is in their interest to get it back. Lazy is the word that comes to mind but I don't find FBD to be like that myself

If you can show proof that liability has been accepted and you have your NCB bacj, a good broker (not online) will find a home for you
