2012 avensus gearbox problem

    help , i have 2012 avensus estate and i am having trouble selecting 1st and 2nd gear , ther is only 67.000 km on the clock and the warrenty ran out in march 2015

    If it has been serviced from the main dealers it would be worth seeing if they can do anything, seems crazy to be failing with those miles on it and that age. Could it be the clutch?

    More than likely your clutch is gone. I take it you can't drive it at the minute. Was it making any unusual noises etc before this happened or did it happen all of a sudden?

    Does the other gears on the Avensis work? Reverse?
    It could be just the gearshift cables.

    Can you get it into 1st/2nd with a bit of effort?

    Does it shudder while in 1/2nd gears?
    Was there any warning before it started happening?

    iu got the cables check they are ok and it iis driving fine just have to force 1st and 2nd

    how far is the clutch pedal from the floor before the car starts to move off in first?

    about half way ............dosend seem like a clutch fault as the resistance is there when the
    engine is of

    There's only one way to find out and that's opening the clutch and box

    I'll go with the clutch dying too.

    Had this on a Pug and toughed it out for a couple of k until the pedal wouldn't part the clutch and drove it home from Newry to Dublin without one.

    Fingers in the middle of the diaphragm spring were gradually breaking off given reduced lifting making low gear difficult to select. When all the fingers were gone, the release bearing couldn't do any lifting and so no clutch separation.

    Probably on its way to look something like this:

    Just got it back from tge gge it seems there were 2 springs and a bearing collapsed in the box selectors were fine
