    Hi

My wife is sick and we are unable to take family holiday

Don't have travel insurance per se

But would visa debit, house insurance or VHI be likely to cover us?

Sorry to hear of your wifes illness. Is there any option to rebook at a later date, possibly with a change fee? Perhaps try contact provider(s) to see if they can offer anything.

As far as I know Visa would only cover in the event the agent/hotel or airline went bust. Travel insurance taken out pre her illness would have covered but only if a doctor certified her as too ill to travel and additionally if she was not awaiting any results of medical tests before you booked the trip.
