Where do we send off our completed marriage forms?

    Hi,

Just got married last Saturday. Quick/stupid question: where do we send off our completed marriage forms in order to purchase our marriage certificate (based in Dublin)?

Preferably prefer to call in as opposed to posting the forms.

    Thanks in advance.

    Where did you get married?

Did your registrar not organise to send them in for you?

Your nearest registry office I would imagine - or at least, ring them and they should know where to send them.

I brought mine into the localy registry office and got the marriage cert there and then. Word of warning - check opening times before you go! The close early on Fridays

Can I ask a follow up question here?

Did you guys order marriage certs or what?
I haven't ordered any yet and haven't needed them ever. I'm not changing my name so it really doesn't come up.
I feel like I should order one or two just to have them, but at the same time it seems pointless.

Am I going to suddenly need one for something at some time in the future?

We ordered two of them just to have them.

Never needed them until we went to buy a house and it was casually mentioned that the bank needed a copy. If we didn't have them, there would have been a bit of a panic trying to get them.

You very rarely need to prove to anyone that you're actually married. Even Revenue didn't ask for proof.

We needed them for a joint account and for applying for a mortgage.

We have a joint account, but I guess we'll apply for a mortgage in the next year or so I might as well get two to have to hand.

    Thanks all.

If you dont' go in and register your marriage (i.e. file the cert that you guys and your solemiser signed at your wedding) within 3 months of your wedding then you're not technically married by Irish Law.
It could come into play with inheritance if one of you dies, the other one won't be entitled to inherit the deceased estate tax free (transfers or inheritance from spouse to spouse is tax free otherwise it attracts 33% tax)
I guess if you go to the trouble of getting married.....actually being married in the eyes of the law means something to you?

We got married in the registry office so posting forms isn't an issue. Just kind of expected they'd at least automatically send us one copy of the cert.

Nope. You have to pay for them as far as I know (20). I posted my sisters forms for her while she was on honeymoon but then she had to get the cert when she came back.
