Okay, just wondering what people think. I am in a job I hate, zero satisfaction, I can do as much as I want or as little as I want. I can't get a career break. If they let me go they have to pay me off. i earn over 50 K + benefits etc.
Where I live there are no more jobs around. I could just grow old and die in this job. I have no dependents. What do people think ? Sit back and let the cash keep coming ? Or quit and do something ?

Take the money and start a distance/evening program in what you want to do and work on getting yourself trained over and able to move out of the current role into something you want to do.

    Would go with this.

I used to do a job that I did sort of enjoy but resulted in me having no personal life at all. I quit, moved back to Dublin and now earn a good bit less money but I don't regret it one bit.

How old are you? How many years do you have 'til retirement? Do you have any hobbies that could turn into a satisfying side career? Or even just that will sustain you to have an interesting life, while you do the mundane job to earn money?

Many people get to a career point where working is simply what they do to make money. If your current job is comfortable enough, it may be that the cash is adequate compensation, and that starting again in a totally different field for rubbish money and low status would not be your cup of tea.
