Dell XPS 1645 BIOS issue

Ok folks,

Bit of a long winded one here basically i bought a Dell XPS 1645 in 2009. A few years later i had issues with the charger which i eventually had to replace from Dell but i left it so long that the battery totally died and i cannot resurrect it. The battery isnt even recognised anymore.

My problem now lies with a known throttling issue with this particular model (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19306277?pi239031352=54) the problem being that i cannot update the BIOS to sort out this throttling issue as it needs to detect a battery for some reason. I can download the BIOS update no problem but it wont install without the battery. I had always noticed the laptop was a little slower than the specs would suggest (in 2009 obviously) but it seems to issue was only sorted sometime in 2010.

The reason i've waiting this long is i haven't been using the laptop a lot in recent years but as its upgrading to windows 10 its something i wanted to sort.

Any help???

Simplest idea would be to borrow a working battery, or buy a new one (should only be 30 quid or so).

Cheers ED E the problem is i don't know anyone who has one and even Dell have stopped selling the battery for this particular laptop. I can find some spurious ebay ones but i'm be a big wary of buying one of them.

I was hoping there would be some work around one would imagine once the power supply was plugged in it would let me update the BIOS.

Cant seem to find any batteries online that look like the real deal at a decent price

Amazon batteries tend to be ok, Ive used several before with no issues.

Odd Dell no longer have it on their site but its a moot point as its £70 so €100...bit pricey for a 6 year old laptop.

I might take a chance on the amazon one seeing as its 1/3 of the price i'm not expecting outstanding performance but once i can update the BIOS it should sort out my throttling issues.

Just to close this thread i picked up a cheap replacement battery on amazon and was able to update the BIOS and the laptop is running better than ever on windows 10...the trottling issue has obviosuly been solved or improved and cheap battery is definitely doing it job.
