Jetta v Passat

Maybe Im wrong but shouldnt the front grille on the Jetta be silver?

Also, that Passat is still under 10 years old, so it was last tested around Oct 2014, so just bear that in mind too. Seems very cheap IMO.

Thanks for the reply. I did a cartell check on the Jetta and nothing came up accident wise or anything. I haven't a clue about the grille but I'll compare it to other ones.

From looking online, the Passats seem to vary in price. Some are less than €2k others up to €3,500 and most of them are 05 and 06. I haven't done a cartell check on that one yet.

    Thanks again for your reply.

Yeah, the centre section of the bumper should be chrome. As the car has no alloys it's unlikely that it was a styling mod.

Ya, I took a look there and the other ones have the chrome.

What do you mean by styling mod? Is it suspect that it's not chrome?

This. A google of the mobile number doesn't throw up anything, which if he's a dealer is a tad unusual, so is a private seller going to stand over it? Weird ad.

The seller seems to be listed as private which I thought was odd given that they're giving a 2 month warranty!

I need to move fast enough as I've a buyer lined up for my own car, but I don't want a situation where I act in haste and repent in leisure!!

Would there be any chance that you could borrow a friend / family members car for a couple of days, just transfer your insurance? It may be worth holding on the couple of days and actually going around looking at cars, rather than rushing into a sale and the car isnt as expected.

I've been looking at the Jetta for a while now and am fairly sold on (maybe not that exact one) the model. I was leaning more towards the Passat due to it being local enough and I could get my mechanic to look at it. Don't want to have to be using someone I don't know or trust.

Unfortunately, no other car I could borrow. I've been looking now for about close to 2 months, I'd say.

Seems very cheap if it's too good to be true it generally Is. Be aware of forged log books, cloned reg etc.

I know someone who got caught recently and the seller had cloned the car and forged the log book and nct cert so despite the cartel and Garda checks everything appeared in order. The car turned out to be stolen and they lost the money. Offer the draft and they say no to that just walk away.

Do you mean the Passat seems to good to be true?

How do you mean offer the draft?

A quick look on carzone has similar cars with more Kms on the clock at €3k - €4k on private sale. If you do decide to purchase offer to pay by draft and if they say cash only its a good sign they may trying it on. As you may or may not know drafts have to be lodged to accounts and trace back to con artists by the gardai.

    Buyer beware and all that

    Ah, okay. Thanks for that!

Some guys would paint it black to look like a golf gti. I suspect in this case that the centre got scratched and it was easier to paint it black.

It could also just be a golf bumper painted,

I'd have my doubts around how genuine a €2k B6 Passat is. Older B5 models are still fetching more than that. As for the Jetta, something about it doesn't sit right with me but I cannot put my finger on it.

OP, if your looking at the cheapest examples of both cars then chances are you will find they are the ones with the most interesting of histories or sellers.

It looks like the grill off a GT spec golf to me. You can kind of see the GT badge on the top left.

Ah Jaysus! Would that mean it's been in a crash?

Would a mechanic spot the grill thing?

Thanks everyone for all the replies so far.

It could mean it was crashed or it could also mean that the previous owner changed it along with other modifications that may not be seen from the photos. VWs even Jettas, are popular with young lads who like to modify them.

Thanks. It looks like it might be back to the drawing board!
