Car resprayed but might have a problem

I reversed into a post and damaged my car front door and cill, brought it to a guy who pulled the bad dent out on the cill and fixed a new door on and sprayed both. The door is fine but there's a part on the cill that is soft to touch and when rubbed, the paint work smudges into a black smudge. I was going to take the car for a car wash but now I'm afraid it'll all come off at the cill. Its only been 3 days since I got the car back!

Can anyone explain to me why this is like this. Parts of the cill isn't as smooth as the rest of the car which I'm not to fussed about but with paintwork smudgibg at the touch, its flagging a red light which has me worried :(

Bring it back to him and tell him to fix it, easy.

He lives 35 mins away! I'm just wondering is it just taking a bit long to dry with this weather.

The paint should be dry & relatively hard when he gave you back the car. He's done something wrong mixing the paint. Bring it back to him, he's do da poor repair.

Will give it another day or 2 and if its still the same, he'll be coming to collect it.

Did you get it done on the cheap or did you get it done properly? If it was on the cheap it'll never be right and there's not much point going back as you got what you paid for, if properly then it should be fixed

Nothing in consumer law requires the garage to collect it. If you want it fixed you need to bring it back or arrange before hand for the work to be done locally to you.

Sure the engine would barely be warm by the time you get there. Any shorter distance you should walk, skateboard or cycle:eek::eek::eek:

You seem to have a few stupid answers to your question from some previous posters. There is good chance that there may have been an anti stone chip shultz applied to the sill panel, this may have been applied to offer protection against stone chips or hide a bad repair.

The shultz may not have been dry when the paint was applied, it should really be allowed to dry before the paint was put on. I would say he's saying wait a few days to see if it hardens, only time will tell. I've seen some harden and some stating soft as you described. The same paint would have been used on the door as the sill, anybody telling you different doesn't know what they 're talking about. Hope you get it sorted out.

What's the Shultz? TBH it looks an OK job but its the paint not drying is the only problem.

Close thread so. Why ask the question if you don't intend to return to the repair shop to have it rectified.

The only correct advice here if you are unhappy with the work carried out to your car is to return to the repair shop. By the sounds of it, you have reason to be unhappy.

Perhaps the car is worth less than the price of fuel to go back to the guy? That's the only logical reason I can see not to have them look at it.

You could ring the guy and question the "issue".

Its not normal that after painting it would not be dry after a number of hours let alone days. As another poster mentioned maybe it has something applied to it, like a sealant wax or something.
