Hi, I'm looking for a CRT tv 28" - 40" like the one in the link below, I don't like flatscreen tv's whether they're CRT or not ( yes I know I'm weird ). Does anybody know where I can get used or refurbished models, maybe old hotel stock or something. I've looked on the usual websites like Donedeal etc but they only seem to have the flatscreen types. I have a black Mitsubishi 21" CRT ( curved screen type ) with Nicam sound, fully working and in good condition, willing to trade for a similar but larger model.

I found an ad with a 27" from June online, I replied to it but it might be gone at this stage. I just don't like the image on flatscreen tv's for some reason, on any I've ever watched the colours don't seem right, even after adjustment. I think the older tv's look better too, the flatscreens remind me of the monolith from '2001 A Space Odyssey' :o

LCDs unless they are Plasma are a far worse technology than CRT tech. They just won out because they are smaller, lighter and consume less power. CRTs can display any resolution and don't habve a fixed native resolution and also display colours far better.

They also weigh a ton, and I should know having gotten a 29" Trini up my spiral staircase!

I think the OP is also ruling out CRT's with flat screens, like the 21" Trini I linked in the other CRT thread - imo the picture from it is superb.

I have a mixture of curved and flat CRTs and any differences in image quality between them has nothing to do with the curvature of the glass (in my non expert opinion). :)

It's to do with the difference between shadow masks and aperture grilles/Trinitron tech. The latter tend to have flat screens, the former curved.

Both look gorgeous but it's definitely a taste thing. I rather shadow masked/curved monitors in arcade cabs but Trinitron monitors for consoles.

Not a massive preference mind you, CRT tech in general is just lovely :)

Ye feckers, this thread has got me thinking about getting a CRT for my old consoles now too! :D

Now to start justifying to the other half why I need another piece of electronics in the house, particularly an old TV... :o

I have a Mitsubishi 21" CRT, I carried it from Campbells store in Kimmage to the bus stop and then got a bus to Phibsboro and carried it about 1\2 a mile to the house. I was feeling the 'burn' at that stage :p

Totally agree. I have a 50 inch Panasonic plasma which is pretty good and a 26 inch Samsung LED which is poor. I also have a 29 inch Trinitron which I just cannot replace even though it is huge in comparison to modern TVs. It is simply an excellent TV for it's time and price. Picture quality is on a par with the plasma. Recent LED TVs (some) have just caught up with CRT picture quality from 15 - 20 years ago. Again, as in most technology wars, we have been sold a pup.

I don't think I can compete with some of your CRT stories, ha. My best feat was carrying a 32" upstairs and lifting it on to a 5 foot tall dresser. I probably got a better workout doing that than lifting a barbell with 50kg on it down the stairs when the mother and sister went away a few months ago (had already done 2 trips down the stairs with stuff and wasn't doing any more, ha).
