Talk to Garda about summons

I got my name taken on Saturday by a Garda and was told I will be getting a summons in the post. I will be travelling from September to march so I am afraid I will be away when the summons comes. Is it ok to speak to the garda about issuing the summons for when I am home? Or is that pushing it?! Thanks in advance :)
