Well if you are going to perform on Strictly... hehe...

I was in M&S today and there are some fab frocks.I cant post links, but have a look online. I saw some great dressy jumpsuits too...

Do you know what colour the bridesmaids are wearing? I always check that. I think the maxi dresses are overkill for a wedding guest, though the are fab. Like the first red and white shorter dress though.

Have you checked dresses.ie? They have some lovely dresses

Jumpsuits are out, I'm old enough to remember them in the seventies/eighties :D

Not a clue  I guess I can ask the oh to ask his friend. I quite like the red and white dress, but both the maxi dresses too, as they are plain :)

I think the first dress is very bridesmaid-ey (because that's a word now)
I don't like the Seraphine one, to me it's more like something you'd wear more casually, maybe in Winter with tights.
The rest of them are nice and definitely wedding appropriate!

Thanks, agree on the Seraphine, I really liked the first one, but get what you are saying :)

The red and white, then the navy maxi dress are probably top of the list, I like the tassle dress too, but would want to try it on and may not be able to :)

I really like the first one. I think with short hair and fab sandals it would be so striking.
Was there a colour on the invite? Usually the colour of dresses!

I really like the first one. I think with short hair it would be so striking.

I really like it, the shape will suit my figure, it's not a bridesmaid color, and it goes well with my colouring and hair

I've asked the Oh to check the bridesmaids colours and if they are in something completely different I'd be leaning towards it, perhaps with gold/bronze accessories. However this is the first wedding I've been to in a good fifteen years, so if it's completely out of the question, I'm open to ideas on the other dresses.

I wear knee length dresses every day for work, and this is going to be a dressy enough wedding, so I want to feel confident in how I look

I also really love the navy maxi dress as it's a colour and shape that really suit me, and contrast really nicely with my hair, which is a dark red colour at the moment.

I love the mix of different styles at weddings.

If its an august wedding, there's a remote chance that the weather will be good.....maybe a long dress wouldn't be comfortable....

This from somebody who's been to more weddings than most....member of a wedding band for many years...

Oh....and from a male perspective, the first red and white one!

Er no, did you miss the mention of my OH? And forget to read the charter?

I think the olive maxi is much classier than the red and white, I'm fairly shy so a very outgoing dress like that, whilst I like it, would potentially be far too attention attracting to me.

I want to look elegant but not have every drunken gob****e in the place near me.

My hair is a similar style but shorter than hers :D I've no fringe etc It's literally cropped as short as it could be without being shaved.

Something like this is very similar to mine, I've a bigger nose, but the rest would be similar

Also I'm in my forties :)

Beautiful! Try it on, see if you feel comfortable and it suits and go for it.
I've an old pic of my Mom from the 70s in a long red dress that kind of almost grecian style. She had short hair as well. I just think it looks so striking.
I was at a wedding a few weeks ago.As I say, I love the mix of styles, you can't do wrong. For our group we had, a linen trouser suit, a high waisted full skirt and top, a maxi, a line dress with a very full skirt, and a shift dress.

Try here too. Some are a little expensive but very pretty!

    Nice

That's after checking the entire site, I'm very fussy about colour and style despite/perhaps displayed by my original choices, I tend to go for what I know works for me :)

That dress though is lovely, I'm still leaning towards that olive Maxi..................

That one is in blue as well!

I really like the olive one, can you tell!!!! I think it will be beautiful on from the way you've described yourself. And if it's quit formal/dressy I think it will be perfect. I have a friend in her 40s, she rarely wears dresses. I would never say to her to get a maxi. She would be so concious about wearing a dress, her posture would be off, she would just look uncomfortable and she wouldn't be happy in it.

You're in knee length dresses for work five days a week, tall and you'll look fab!

How are they on returns, I'm an inch or two smaller on some of their smallest measurements? I tend to be scptical on that though and wait to try it on.

Gonna see how the split is here between the green or navy maxi and that :D

Incredible how much effort a wedding costs guests!

Friend ordered last week but she kept it. You'd have the usual distance selling rights.

Is the navy one the other maxi? I thought it was purple. Lovely too.

Oh stop. Nuts!!!! Tan, nails, shoes, make up, bag, hair, dress. All adds up!

The Perdy dark blue/ purple is identical to one my daughter wore to a wedding last week and got lots of comments about it.
I do like the olive though, a timeless classic.
But you might want to order fast as both are low in stock.

What do ye think of this one from Monsoon?
Saw it in the flesh tonight, and it's gorgeous, I'd accessorise it with red/jade or electric blue

    It's a beautiful cut

Gorgeous! Perfect neckline for your hair length too. That's my favourite of the links you've posted :)

And the great thing about it (apart from it being reduced by about 70% to half nothing :D) is that I have a pair of beautiful very dressy jade suede Hobbs shoes, and a lovely jade and silver earrings and necklace set, so for the most part I've all the accesories (I love jade as a colour, and have two work outfits that are navy and jade, and adore them)

What do you think of getting a length of jade ribbon about 1.5 inches in width and using it as a "belt" on the waistline? The navy is a very rich and vibrant colour in the flesh and I think the jade ribbon would really add to the dress, the waistline is very severely defined on the dress in a good way

Nice idea, maybe try finishing the ends of the ribbon and attaching a hook and eye fastening (i.e. making a little belt rather than having a bow which would disrupt the line of the dress at the waist)

So almost make it look like the ribbon is part of the dress? Super suggestion, I was thinking I didn't want the ribbon to be ruining the line of the dress :)

I think the Monsoon one is lovely and it's the sort of dress you would get loads of wear out of. It would be lovely over the Christmas season. The earrings would be fab with it.

I'm not a fan of the olive at all to be honest! Think the colour is drab and the cut is a bit bridesmaid-y. The navy maxi is the nicer of the two imo but I think a plain coloured maxi can be a bit dangerous unless you know what colour the bridesmaids are.

Thanks, apparently the bridesmaids are in black, I think I'm going to go with the Monsoon dress and the pendant and earrings I posted, the shoes I have are the jadey colour in the earrings and pendant :)

Just need a jade clutch and I'm sorted :)

Olive is a colour which for some bizarre reason suits me, but it's no longer available anyway :)

Yeah I'd agree with wearing the earrings but giving the necklace a miss, there's enough going on at the neckline without breaking it up. Could go simple with the bag too and go for navy instead of picking up the green again, I love this one http://uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_23,mon_1.20/8440116100

You are both dead right, I forgot the neckline as it's not one I'd wear often as I've ginormous boobs and a solid color from the chest up looks like I've a chin down to my boobs. No bracelets will be worn, but I've a favourite ring which I will wear which is a citrine and peridot which will fit with the jade :)

You guys have been great with the suggestions, thanks so much :)

Great call on the bag Dee, that looks just what I need :)

Gonna go with the Monsoon dress, I love it, I've seen it in the flesh, and I know I can accessorise it with little to no effort, I'm an extremely lazy person.

I'm a bit OCD last minute is not for me at all :) I'm already planning how nice my nails will be if I don't chew them between now and then, and how to fit in getting my normal hair and eyebrows done to optimise their appearance heeheh

    Quick reactions -

The first one, dark green - elegant frock but very #bridesmaidy. Perdy wrap dress, ditto.

The red-'n'white ones - fine for a summer wedding ;-)

The Beige tassle is very beige - colourless? Ok if you have sharp accessories, it is very elegant

I LOVE the raisin Seraphine, personally; (that's the one I would wear, if it was me.)

So my search is over, I was working in Dublin City Centre this afternoon, finished early and hurried over to Monsoon to pick up the navy dress.

It was gone and they'd nothing more that I liked or was in my size.

The Oh joined me, and we resumed the search. Off to the designer studio at the top of Powerscourt - nothing, at the entrance of Powerscourt I tried on a gorgeous rust colored dress but the cut was very puffy from the waist down and I wasn't sure.

I'd read about a second hand/swapshop in Royal Hibernian way, so decided to check it out.

In I go, to be greeted by a lovely lady asking if I was looking for something specific, a dress for a wedding I replied. She took in my height, and weight and suggested one dress to see how it looked, when I spotted a gorgeous purple colored dress.

Tried it on, and it was gorgeous. V neck with detail on the bodice, cut on the bias and just below knee length. I then looked at the label, it was a Louise Kennedy dress. The Oh and the shop assistant both thought it was lovely, so it's now mine and my search is over :)

Sounds beautiful Stheno..job done! Well I bought my dress this morn(wedding tomorrow):pac:I tried one on in Fran and Janes yesterday but there was no return as it was reduced butI I
wasnt 100%,stressing over it last night and decided Id head in and take it this morn.
Anyway spotted a fab petrol blue one in Debenhams and tried it on,its was stunning but a little too puffy and Im used to fitted.I just didnt have the guts wear it but may have if it was a family wedding..weird I know:rolleyes:
Ended up with a dress from Warehouse and I love it.Its plain black(silky) on top with shoulders cut in and tied behind the neck..The skirt is multi coloured and that puffy shape also, just below the knee. Im tall also and I have to say Im looking forward to wearing it as its totally different to what I usually wear.

My one fear is that someone else will have it as its a very big wedding..fingers crossed I wont have to run home and change but I will if that happens:pac:

    HOpefully not!

I'm still thinking of using the same shoes and earrings, but seriously tempted to accessorise with rust, no shoes in that color, but the jade/green earrings have purple and rust in them.

So thoughts on a wrap? Go with the jade/green, or reconsider rust? I'm going to buy a length of silk and get it made into a wrap.

I'd have to buy shoes if I go with rust, the greeny color is here http://www.silks.ie/dupion-silk#

the rust I'd go for is not available to show.

What think ye gurus? Stick with the green?

I love the sound of the green but it depends on style/material of dress also.Have a look at NEXT online for shoes.I bought mine there, very comfy, reasonable and lots of choice and variety(fabric wise). They have gorgeous gold sparkly ones for 28e..Im not great with heels but theyre like gloves(almost:pac:)

THis is the color of the shoes, they are not the ones in the pic, but they are very high heeled and have a lot of detail. http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Faith-jade-green-satin-stiletto-sandals-size-4-/321816626536?hash=item4aedc40568

The dress fabric is jersey like, and cut on the bias so very plain, but very dressy given the cut :) it's literally swings with every step I take.

Adding the jewellery and the wrap in green/jade, I think will make for a lovely outfit, probably slightly unusual, which I like, but which with the wrap off will be less so, but still very nice.

I tend to use "jewel" colors a lot as they really suit my colouring :)

Theyre very nice and just about as high as I can go in a heel also.Id deffo go that colour wrap also, just classier I think.Bear in mind that hopefully the weather will be better by then and you may not need one,Im already shivering thinking about tomorrow.

I love purple with green, some contrasts work well,I just wouldnt introduce another colour as I think you will lose the effect. Try it and come back to us but Id put money on it being right when you try it:pac:
