Never heard of it until it was mentioned on the radio this morning. The presenters had never heard of it either, and tbh I'm still none the wiser as to how it's used.

Do you mean people describing their group of friends as their squad?

squad goals etc. used only by the most unoriginal of ppl
its like when the hangover came out and every pack of cnuts started calling themselves "the wolfpack" .
itll blow over soon, they all do.

What do you mean? The word is valid for a team, a group of soldiers or a group of people having a particular task. What other meaning is being used?

He said outside of sport though.

I only saw it today for the first time here.

I'm still not sure what it means. But I hate it.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Soldiery isn't a sport, unless you consider man to be the greatest game of all.

Yes, all my definitions applied outside sport. Teams are not exclusive to sport.

Ah, I thought when he excluded sport he was excluding all squads / teams of people.

Sure that's even worse so. Why would the use of squad in such contexts suddenly be an issue?

I like it. I don't see why it would bother anyone.

The OP needs to give examples of what he means. But I suspect he just piggybacked on the discussion the squad on the radio were having and they had no examples either.

How is that considered news even by the terribly low standard of celebrity news? Two people went to New York and met some people that they knew. They took photos of these events.

    Big f*cking whoop.

    Because they had squad goals.

Can't you people read? SQUAD GOALS. That's what made it an important news event.

The whole celebrity news thing, always a joke is getting even more risible. You just publish somebody's Twitter feed a day later.

Well, no disrespect (yeah right) but I would have heard that crowd (Huberman et al) refer to each other as "the gang" and "the guys" quite a bit over the years.

So, is 'the squad' the new version of that?

22 posts in and I still have no fncking idea what a "squad goal" is supposed to be.

Yeah kind of. There's also a "craze" to post a picture or vid of something, for example someone might post a pic of a "power couple" and tag it #relationshipgoals or worse, someone nightpost a pic of a group of friends all with almost matching expensive cars with the tag #squadgoals and I can't explain why but it's the most irritating thing ever :(

Still trying to get my head around the fact that group of clowns referred to themselves as a wolfpack.

    Wait... who?

Are you still annoyed by The Hangover film?

It's a british term for a group of friends, you'll come across it one the likes of The Lad Bible

Yes, it stole 90 minutes of my life.

Who else would you grab a "cheeky Nandos" with? While wearing a pair of Nike Huraches and sporting a lovely top knot I might add.

    Fcuk off.

Another thing I've been seeing is 'goals af' which means 'goals as ****', which means 'this is one of my aims in life'.

It's crazy (and stupid) what some stuff can be shortened down to.

It's more the people using it for the sake of using it because it's the new 'cool' thing to say.

What's the craic. Will someone let me know what this is all about so we can decide if it should be locked or not...

    :/

Well I've no idea, so my vote is for the lock.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,191 ✭✭✭Eugene Norman

See no reason to lock it. It will probably die in a few more posts anyways.

    Tl;Dr

    Squad is a sucky neologism.
