Transferring from J.B. to J.A., then got a job

I was on Jobseekers Benefit until that ran out and now im in the (long) process of transferring to Jobseekers Allowance. I have been waiting at least 7 weeks at this stage for a decision. They are stringing me along nicely and dragging out the requests for documents which I am providing to them in a timely manner. Im seriously running low on money at this stage and im ringing them a couple of times a week to see if theres any word but im getting nowhere.

Anyway, luckily I just got a job and started today. However I wont be paid until the end of August.

My question is: providing that they were to decide in my favour and grant me Jobseekers Allowance, am I legally entitled to the Jobseekers Allowance money from the time I finished Jobseekers Benefit up until the time when i started the job?

I have not told them I have started a new job yet. I am worried that if I tell them this tomorrow, will they immediately cancel my Jobseekers Allowance application? I wouldnt think that is fair at all but I fear they would do it.

    Any advice appreciated

You're legally bound to inform DSP of your change in circumstances i.e. you're no longer unemployed & therefore no longer a jobseeker.

Your JA application will be processed & if approved you'll be paid from the time your JB ended until the day before you rejoined the workforce.

Would the fact that I am no longer available for work mean that they would have to deny my claim. Or are they legally supposed to assess me based on the time before I took up employment?

You will get any payment due to you from the date you applied for JSA to the date you signed off (yesterday one hopes)
