Anyone know how much detergent is needed for the auto washer? Do you just fill the bowl which is around 600 mls or is it too much? TCM is high and it's the only cause I can think of.

What's TCM again, excess detergent? If you think there is too much detergent being sucked in you could always water it down a bit? (just make sure actually you add the detergent to water instead of the other way around!). Is the final rince not long enough either? I know the auto washer on my tank I can manually adjust the settings if needs be, there is a far bang of detergent from the tank after washing always, however I've never got an excess detergent reading so never bothered fixing it.

TCM is chlorine. Hows your descaling routine? If descaler is not used on a weekly basis on tank and milking machine chlorine deposits can build up. Are you on well water or treated water? You can get detergents now with no chlorine.

Well water untreated, I use descaler on the milking machine once a month. I haven't used descaler on the bulk tank since April. What brand of detergent doesn't have chlorine?

The smell of detergent out of my tank after washing would almost knock you out. I cut detergent down to 350 mls and milk adviser will take a sample next week.

Once a month is too long. Use once a week to control it and don't forget the milk tank as well. Not sure of the name of detergent that doesn't have chlorine, it's just what Osmonds sales rep told me. When you put descaler in machine the water turns purple that's the descaler interacting with chlorine. I use hydrosan liquid myself and have no issues, but make sure to descale. I don't work for Osmonds.:P Rinse, Rinse, Rinse.

Not usually. But had a problem with tbc last year and had to pour water and a little bit of detergent into tap at end of vacuum line when the machine was going and let it through to trap at motor. No problems this year last tbc test was 3. Milk usually stays out of vacuum line, its only if pump can't take it in jar and it overflows that you have a problem.

That was me but I later found out it was rinsing with cold water after getting up a 4am a few mornings when the washer was giving trouble.

Do you have to use normal detergent after using descale or can you put the milk straight in after descale wash?

Rinse the hell out of it first. I rinse twice then milk.

So if I run the auto wash without detergent for a full cycle it should the trick.

the tank is washed and rinsed with cold water as part of the wash cycle after the descale wash, very rarely open the tank tbh

Yea it should be rinsed enough on 1 run of auto wash without going again.
