Front wheel rattle

I've a Scott speedster and the front wheel quick release keeps coming loose so my front wheel is rattling. I noticed it a good bit today and had to get off a few times to tighten it.

Anything I can do myself (tighten more tightly?) or should I bring it to the shop?

Had zero issues with it whatsoever until I took my wheel off a few weeks ago to transport the bike in a car. Since then it's come loose on all of my longer spins.

A quick release should never normally come undone if it is closed correctly unless it is defective. Are you certain that you are correctly tightening and closing it?

Are you just spinning it until it stops rotating, or are you turning it so far, and then closing over the clamp against some resistance? If the former, then you are doing it wrong, if the latter then it could still be you, or it could be an issue in the skewer. Generally speaking, if there is any curve in the lever on the skewer, then the concave part of this should be facing the wheel, with the convex part facing out, in case that helps.

I'm hand tightening the screw with the lever open then closing the lever. It feels good and tight when I close it and the wheel doesn't rattle, then the lever randomly opens.

Edit: Sorry I misread in my first attempt for this post. Can you try an alternative skewer to rule out?

Whatever you do... stop riding until you sort it out. I had a skewer come undone and went over the bars and damaged my ribs. Took 6 weeks to heal totally.

I'll drop down to the LBS tomorrow and ask them for a spare skewer!
