Driving Lessons and Tests in Northern Ireland???

I live in the Republic but only a few kilometers away from the boarders...

I was wondering if it was possible for an Irish Citizen to get a drivers license in Northern Ireland? Would it be legal?

Also is there any advantages getting a license up there rather than down here?

I know you get an R plate rather than an N plate... So what would happen if I had one deep down south? And what's the difference between the two?

You aren't resident in the north so therefore wouldn't be able or entitled to get a learner permit up there and are therefore unable to take lessons there
