Hopefully Sky will learn from the mistakes UPC has made with Horizon - this seems to share a lot of the same ideas on both the hardware and software sides.

Will this new box work over satellite or broadband?

    Both, I'd expect.

At this stage its still a rumour - nothing has been announced by Sky. I'd be surprised if they weren't heading down this road. But I'd expect any new STB to continue to use satellite for linear channel delivery with broadband being used for on-demand services. One thing that would be nice is if the STB could stream content like other services - Sky's current on demand services require the saving of content to a hard drive prior to playing (and thus will only work on a Sky+ box).

The link says it will do that.

SkyQ, developed at maximum speed under the codename “Project Ethan”, is understood to allow subscribers to watch and record at least four programmes simultaneously on multiple devices throughout the home. It will wirelessly beam content to smartphones and tablets around the home, and is ready to receive ultra-high definition broadcasts once Sky follows BT to offer sharper pictures for the latest televisions.

My mate in the UK works for them and has had a new box for the last 6 weeks , you can watch your recordings on your phone , new epg, new remote (I think )

Said it was an absolute dog , kept freezing and needing hard resets , switched back to his old box , trying to get a picture from him now of the new one

Nice one. Would be good to see. Great that they've been testing it for a while now too.

He is most likely in a position where he'd not be allowed to take pictures of the box to publish online.

He shouldn't even be talking about anything like that never mind sending pictures

He sent me on the pics of her but said I would not post them , nice looking bit of kit , but he said it was dreadful , locking up , slow channel changing , recordings failing , stuff just disappearing from the planner .

Could be a while before we see this puppy , also has bluetooth for sending images ( he didn't mention video )

Said the box would be offered on a rental basis

Don't know are you trolling or not :P
What size is the box compared to the current Sky box?

    Rental basis? :-/

Hopefully it's not an extra cost on the subscription (likely see the HD sub being free and this being an extra 15 a month?)
