Why are Sky News reporting this? It's clear that the element of surprise was very important if this plan was to ever work correctly, and the biggest media outlet in Britain who should be doing everything they can to *not* help terrorists has thrown it up on their front page for the world to see  A hugely irresponsible piece of journalism, I'd have imagined (or hoped more like) that the media would have some small bit of cop on and not report on something so important but nope, just tell the world of the "secret" plan to fight terror. Ridiculous.

Although the idiot(s) who leaked it is also has a huge case to answer for.

Well I think that if any would-be suicide bomber was thinking
about attacking the UK and then making a run for it.

With this leak now and knowing they have 5000 armed solders to fight trough!
I think they will think twice.

So you see, leaking stuff to the media can sometimes be a good idea.

I'd deploy an army of super duper puppies to the streets.
    Nobody can resist a puppy.

Why would they give a hoot about the army on the streets? These guys don't care they want to die after they have carried out their attack.

Visions of Northern Ireland during the troubles on british streets.

The suicide bomber doing a runner reminds me of that line in Blacksdder in the Somme about stepping on a mine, the best way to react is to throw yourself into the air and scatter in lots of pieces...

5,000 troops has little protection value on a population of 65 million. A leaked story to the press about it is much more effective.

If they didn't want you to know about it then it wouldn't be reported. This just reads like a PR release to make people feel safer whilst simultaneously reminding them of the huge danger we are all in. Thank god the army is there to protect us etc, better take some more funding away from the unemployed and disabled people to ensure our survival.

It's just the plan to deploy lads to every possible target in the event of an attack. Something that would be a no-brainer anyway. Sky trying to trol the goverment for a response is more likely than the plan being given to the police chief.

    5000?

That would be so laughable, only if the terrorists very probably weren't to take it as encouragement!

ITs just a story to keep the Culture of Fear going, and keep the people afraid.

It's nothing more than a knee-jerk reaction, or a pissing into the wind response. Especially when you have fanatics who have no concern for their own life. If a fanatic is going to drive a HGV over shoppers in Oxford Street, or drive a car into a packed bus stop in Golders Green. Stopping them is next to impossible, regardless if there's 5,000 or 1 million troops on the streets.

Unless the leak was deliberate - not a "come on" but a way of reassuring the public that there is a plan, and advising any potential terrorists of what they'll be up against.

    FYP.

    Blackadder:Aaaargh!
Baldrick:Did you just step on a landmine sir?
Blackadder: No Baldrick, I just dipped my elbow in a blob of ice cream.

The media should not be a wing of the establishment and should be publishing secret documents to allow taxpayers know what their money is being spent on and to keep those in power in check.

However that's not really what Sky or the vast majority of the British media do. Most of them just report PR lies from the establishment as fact.

In this case, all Sky did was report on something posted on a website. It's not like they have investigative journalists digging around the British establishment as they're usually far too busy licking their hole. (And it's as bad here btw).
