    To answer my own question.

unlockcode4u.com will unlock the smart prime 6.

Its an Alcatel and not a ZTE?

Can you confirm you bought from there and unlocked it? Long wait?

Smart prime 6 is an Alcatel or (tcl). The smart ultra 6 is made by zte.

I haven't used them but I emailed them originally as the didn't have it listed and they got back to me and confirmed they could unlock it and to just follow the link. I haven't used the service though as in the meantime a forum member who shall remain nameless got in touch and said he could get Vodafone to unlock for me as he has a business account.

As it happens I just asked them this morning, they said they can unlock it, did you go through the process of giving IMEI etc?

There's a blog for the smart prime 6 unlocking which says:

“Please keep in mind, an unlocked phone will not be compatible with every Service Provider. It is up to you to verify with the carrier network you wish to use if your Alcatel Vodafone Smart Prime 6 will be compatible on their network after being unlocked.”

I don't have a smart prime 6, was thinking of getting one but now think I'll consider the Moto E 4G if there'll be hassle unlocking prime 6.

Yeah, I provided all the details that they wanted and they came back to me and said that they could not unlock it.

A few sites will unlock the Smart Prime 6 if it's on the Vodafone UK network, so it may be possible to order one from Voda UK via parcel motel. However additional shipping costs, the cost of unlocking and exchange rates may make it uneconomic to buy...

As I was up there today, I bought a Smart Prime 6 in Argos Newry today for £75. There was an additional £10 charge for top up of the enclosed SIM which I will use again soon in the UK. I got the phone unlocked earlier for €6 on eBay. Initial impressions of this new phone from my daughter (her birthday present too!) are very favourable indeed.

Before I tried Argos, I did try the Vodafone store in The Quays. However the two lads working therein were swamped with significant queuing. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, I gave up and left as both were still dealing with the exact same customers when I arrived and by that stage, the queues were, quite frankly, ridiculous.

Next port of call was the Carphone Warehouse and they offered me a Moto E for £85 with an O2 SIM. The phone was unlocked and would been fine except they discovered they were out of stock when they physically checked. Arrgh! But I was given a tip: apparently all 3-UK phones are unlocked, so we trekked over to there to see what they had. I had a chat with the lads there who showed us their range and the PAYG offerings were indeed confirmed as unlocked but the range seemed at the higher end of affordability though. But then came the sting in the tail: as I wasn't an existing 3 customer, they insisted that they had to sell me a sim with the phone and that would cost another £20. No thanks!

It was something of a fluke to discover that Argos had the Smart Prime6 in stock and only for that, we were going to come home empty handed. So no complaints even if I had to travel for it and pay slightly more than over the counter here. :)

Only way is to ask somebody with a business account to request the code for you. And then it'll take about a month to receive it.

Hiya Frosty, thanks for the tip, don't know anyone with this kind of account. Wish I could just send the ime I number to someone and get it sorted, it's a nice little budget phone

Buy from Amazon UK or Vodafone UK and you can get an unlock code from eBay.

No you can't, which is why he was asking.

None of those will work, as has been mentioned in dozens of previous threads.

I've unlocked two via eBay. Bought both handets from Amazon. The UK handsets can be unlocked this way. Obviously not the Irish handsets.

They were Smart Primes and not Smart Ultras? What ebay seller did you use? This is a hardware rather than a software restriction so it wouldn't make a lot of sense if they could be unlocked by code all of a sudden, especially since no one on HUKD has managed to do so. I'm sure there are some Vodafone users who are selling their three free unlocks per year on Ebay somehow, but I doubt that there are proper "unlock codes" all of a sudden.

Ok, to be a bit clearer, anyone find a reliable unlocker for this phone as already purchased from Vodafone Ireland?

Trying to get unlocked for a relative and already got some failures from eBay unlockers. Might have expected someone to unlock them by now as they are out a while.
Is vodafone the only option? They are getting their unlock codes from a server, is that unique to them or available to unlockers for a price.?

And yes eBay unlockers do list the uk vodafone but not ireland.

Waiting for reply fro another but did see unlockcode4u do have this included deep in their options but not listed so not sure if actually available.

Those two or three ebay sellers that come up in Techmaster's link have been flagged on HUKD as not being able to unlock it.

I'm gonna go out on my instinct and say that, unless Techmaster does indeed know of some ebay seller that boards or HUKD do not know of, that this phone is not unlockable by code and never will be.

I'd recommend seeing if any of your friends are on Vodafone and asking them to get it unlocked for you.

Edit: From a quick Google, this phone may in fact be unlockable by software using furious gold. Perhaps some of those ebay sellers can do it, although it's strange that HUKD users are complaining so much about those sellers. I'm guessing the software is hit or miss? Hopefully Techmaster will reply with his seller and let us know which one he used.

For reference thought I'd add the vodafone unlocking requirements link
    Eg
€127 in 6 months topup for payg.

absolutely any VF customer can get phones unlocked if they meet those requirements, so someone's mother or father who never changes phone would be eligible to receive the unlock codes for the Smart Prime 6.

Apart from stating the obvious, you'd think it'd be that simple.
So far, doesn't seem to work from a bill a/c unlocking this payg phone,
First, they can't find the nac as a straight request, second, won't list this specific phone on the bill a/c to attempt request it there.

Perhaps it's a bit easier from a business a/c as mentioned above.
The unlockcode4u site lists this phone but shows unlocking service (presume db unavailable) as down.

So again, back to the bleeding obvious -looks like stick in a vodafone payg sim, top up by 127 then wait a month for request to go through.

Guess I'd be as well off just going in to a vodafone shop and asking.

you should ask on the VF forum, it should absolutely be as simple as getting a tenured payg customer to claim the nac.

Seems it's not so simple at the mo. I'm not the only one to have the issues I said above. Awaiting their response.

I don't have any other sims handy is there another way to enter the code?
No other way around it. Just save the code in email or somewhere until you have a sim from another network.

They couldn't unlock my phone but sent me to http://www.theunlockteam.com/html/member.html When you click on the HTC and Android link it gives several choices of what needs to be downloaded? Anyone any idea of what exactly has to be downloaded from the list given?:confused:

Sorry for bumping old thread, but I have one of these to unlock.

Hua Wei computer solutions 117 Capel st Dublin for €15 still the best solution?
