Cost of replacing wheel bearing

    Hi all, does anyone know approximately how much should it cost to replace front wheel bearing on a 2005 focus hatchback? I've been quoted 260e for supply and fitting. :(

    Need to do the exact same job myself too.

    Looking at videos online, it's a good bit of work. I'd like to do it, just don't have a hydraulic press to put the new bearing back in.

    For a cheap aftermarket bearing about €150 fitted.

    For a genuine Ford bearing about what you were quoted.

    For a decent quality aftermarket bearing somewhere in the middle.

    Yeah, the bearing itself isn't cheap either. Could you recommend anyone to do it in Dublin or Galway George? Unfortunately Portlaoise is a bit out of the way for me :-)

    It'd be a part that is made by SKF or whoever, but comes in Ford packaging, but more importantly, is subject to Ford's quality control process, and has been validated through testing as a the best replacement for the factory part.

    That would be a bearing supplied in Ford packaging, with Ford branding and (usually) purchased from a Ford dealer. Where purchased from a Ford dealer the part will also be covered by a Ford warrany.

    You will note that I did not imply that Ford manufactured the bearing.

    Out of interest. Do you know who Ford use as their OE supplier is for a 2005 Focus front bearing?

    Was quoted €220 today for the same job, not a genuine part, but I'm told it's a high quality replacement.

    Seem reasonable? To be honest I think it's marginally on the high side, but the place is right beside work and can be done this evening.

    I am getting mine done back home for €150. Not sure what quality the part is though. On the way home to get it done the fecking alternator goes in the car. Second time it's gone in the space of 12 months. Another €200 for it to be reconditioned again!
