Zoning Central Heating Query

Moved into house built 1998, all rads and hot water on same circuit.
    Modern outdoor condensing boiler.

I want to zone the HW off from the heating as is norm these days.

Flow/return from boiler is underground in a 4" duct until middle of the house, where it runs up between walls into hot press and feed hot water cylinder and rads on 1st floor.

Rather than tearing a wall apart to get 2port valves in before it tees off for ground floor rads, I'm proposing to put a 3port diverter valve on the feed into the HW cylinder instead and a non-return on its outlet.

This would be sort of a hybrid zoning, i.e. Zone 1 = heating on or Zone 2 = heating & HW on.
Any reason I should not do this?

(Have a plumber coming but want to get some opinions on best course of action first)
