Yellow Dog Project.

I was in the UK earlier this week with the dogs and I saw a sign explaining the Yellow Dog Project.
They have a website and a facebook page. http://www.yellowdoguk.co.uk/ and
    https://www.facebook.com/TheYellowDogProject
I have two collies, one of whom used to be very nervous around children or over-friendly strangers. She's improving all the time, even though she's nearly eight years old. I would have loved, in the early years, a way to signal to strangers that they should talk to me before talking to the dogs.
Anyway, as soon as I read about the Yellow Dog Project I put a yellow ribbon on her lead and I'm going to keep it there. I have already explained its presence to a few people, so I'm spreading the word. I think it's a great idea, and I'd love if it really caught on in Ireland.
Do you think this might be something the dog lovers of boards.ie might get behind?

There's already an irish yellow dog movement - https://www.facebook.com/YellowDogIreland - the fact that you had to go to the UK to find out about yellow dog will give you an idea of how well know it is here! :p

Will it catch on here? Based on my experience when Bailey was recovering from surgery last year the answer is ...NO. People don't give a crap and will do what they want no matter what you have attached to the dog!! There's even a local groomer in Glasnevin sending dogs home with yellow ribbons - we never know what to do when they arrive in the park - put or dogs back on lead/move away/assume it's been groomed and ok!??!:rolleyes:

I agree with TK123. My friend has a dog who is very nervous of strangers and she tried this and it did not make a bit of difference. What she now does is she has a light jacket which says "do not pet and do not approach". She said it has helped significantly but there is always those ignorant people who either don't read it or think ah dogs love me and pet them anyway. So its going to take a while for anything to catch on by the looks of it.

I do think the yellow dog movement is a fantastic idea though and I do wish it caught on.

to be honest i live in the uk and it hasn't really caught on here at all. from what i have seen people will approach a dog whether you have a yellow or red ribbon or not.

I tried putting a yellow ribbon on my dog when i was trying to train him to walk nicely so as to reduce the number of distractions and if anything more people came over to us. It was a nightmare
