A 'rapidplay' is taking place on Saturday 1st August in the 'Aula Maxima' in UCC to celebrate (and hopefully raise some funds for) Cork player Keegan O'Mahoney's selection for the World U20 Championship to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk next September.

The rapidplay will be a 7 round tournament which begins at 10.30 (Round 1 draw to take place at 10.15 so register prior to this) and the prize-giving is scheduled for 6.30. Each player will have 15 minutes on their clock and a 10 second increment from move one.

Prizes are €200 for first place, €100 for second place and there are two grading prizes of €50 each; these prizes may increase or decrease depending on entries.

If you need any further information please see Cork Chess Club's website.

Just a link for those who might be interested

    http://corkchess.com/about-us/reports-page/

They had 24 players last time and it isn't going to be FIDE or ICU rated. So no ICU political shenanigans.

What has this young man done that he is being sent to siberia ?! . Long way to travel for a few round of chess, much better for him to go to somewhere nearer UK, holland or spain than all the way to siberia.

One thing many chess players are Not short of is ..........VANITY ! .

again with the negative commentary... He eligible to play in U20 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS(fair play to him), his club want to support him. Where is the vanity?

I think you have mixed up things . My second paragraph was separate and NOT related to the first and was a general statement. As regards negative remarks,I don't see anyone complaining about biased barrage of negative remarks made towards icu and it's pro .

What is the point of the negative commentary here?

Don't derail this thread. Start another if you want to discuss the merits of representing Ireland. Consider this a warning.

Worth adding that I think those on the Glorney panels were ineligible for this in an attempt to share around the junior international places on offer. Which is a good idea I think.

..Considering the utterly turgid weather we are having..why not be indoors enjoying a rapid play.. ?

We are supporting our club mate in an effort to reduce obvious costs in travelling to represent his country. ..
