Skoda Octavia - Air Intake Flap

I have a 2008 Skoda Octavia 1.9Diesel. Recently the orange engine management light appeared on the dashboard. Diagnostics show a fault on the air intake flap on the manifold. I have been told that this closes for a few secs when the engine is shut off to reduce shuddering. It now doesn't close and stays open constantly. The engine shudders slightly when turning off but besides that it is driving fine. I have been told that the manifold has to be stripped down to investigate sensors, motor, solemiod valve etc to identify cause. As the car is driving fine otherwise would it be fine to drive it for the next 5 months without doing anything and avoiding a hefty bill as I will be getting rid of it then.

Those flaps can get full of oil and soot which can stop then opening and closing properly.
I've the same engine(in a VW transporter) and I've cleaned out that flap with rubber gloves and my fingers and it stops that shuddering that's for sure. I'm not sure if that's possible on yours though.

Its absolutely fine to drive it. Usually what happens to them is the flap gets covered with carbon buildup and the plastic gears inside the mechanism get stripped due to trying to move the flap when it is obstructed by the carbon. Usually there is no need for any major stripping down or diagnosis, just remove the throttle flap, check it out and replace it if it is broken.
