Hi all. In need of advice currently baby no. 3 in the making so need to upgrade our car. Max budget would be approx. €15,000. Looking for possibly 2010 upwards. Not sure where to start currently have a lancer and will not have enough room in back for a baby seat, toddler seat and a teenager.

If anyone could give examples of types of cars etc with low tax and diesel fuel if possible. We had previously looked at the Opel Zaferia & VW Touran but still unsure.

I know they're french, and the 2nd is auto which is not great, but they have full 3 seats in the rear and low tax and diesel.

I am currently having the same problem. What I have found out

More or less all cars really don't have enough space. Have old type Audi A6 and has a decent bit of space in the middle between baby & toddler seat. The older A6 is bigger in the back that new new model. I use Axiss for toddler so if you have smaller seat it would be ok for small teenager. Any other car I have seen you will have serious problem trying to have room

The Crossover/Small SUV are useless as well. Have had Qashqai(old model), Hyundai ix35 and no space at all after car seats. I haven't seen a crossover whcih is bigger. Maybe the Rav4 but really the only benefit I seen was there is no raised section for the person sitting in middle at there feet which might make it easier

So it is down to MPV which I haven't test drove one. The Citroen Grand Picasso is rated by every website I have found either 1 or 2 as top MPV. The Peugeot 5008 a friend has and loves, the Citroen & Peugeot are both based on the same base. I would have the issue with both is that they will lose a fortune if you buy new but second hand you probably won't have issue.

I talked to main dealer and he was pushing new as he said it is very hard to find a decent MPV second hand because most families buy them and then drive them into the ground/kids grow up. I think this is true if you go for the VW/Seat/Ford but if you stay with the French cars you can pick up some decent ones.

Other option is larger SUV which in your budget you will need to go with older models which mean higher mileage & high tax

How about a Skoda Superb. Big car very clever boot lid lots of room should be plenty big for you. Worth a try. Ford S-Max also worth a look. It looks great and drives very good.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Currently looking between the VW Touran or the Ford C-Max. Both of which I know very little about.

Not sure what year C Max you are looking at however have had a 09' petrol C Max for the last 4/5 months.

Has two ISOFIX points and middle seat is average size, would fit a small child however think an adult would struggle with two baby seats in the back.

The boot is average size as well, bigger than say a Focus but smaller than a Mondeo. The height is good so can fit a fair bit in depending on what it is.

The 1.8 flexifuel petrol engine gives plenty of power for over taking etc and is ok mpg wise. Depends on how you drive really.

The new model C Max came out in 2011 and to me is much nicer looking than the model I have.

Maybe look at the grand C Max, is a bit bigger than the C Max however not as big a S Max. It has 7 seats and have sliding back doors which is great with kids.

The middle seat in the newer C-max (both types) is really narrow so you'll need to check if you can fit your 3 kids across the back. If not you'll have to use one of the 3rd row seats which is not ideal.

2nd row Seats are better in VW touran, Peugeot 5008 and Citroen Picasso.

We had the same problem well a bit more we had twins on the way and two insitu already.

I got a really good deal on a touran have to say very impressed with the space and flexibility the 3 seats in the middle row can be dropped or removed and the back row can be dropped.

The stroppy teenager loves the back row as it has a charging point for the 4 million electrical devices and a drinks holder

Well impressed with it so far we got the 1.9 DSG model the DSG was what it was id normally get manual , love it ever since.

On a side not I spent about €70 on rubber mats from volkswagen no smell off them and fit like a glove with every bodily fluid known to man liable to be split and muck from football etc there ideal

Best of luck with the search

Had a look at the Ford C-Max yesterday. Pretty small back seat but with 2 rear seats I'm sure we would manage. Nice to hear good reviews on the Touran as they look pretty basic from pictures etc. durability and drivability is better in the long run I suppose. Long road ahead but thanks for the great advice!!! 😊

Am I right in thinking the C-Max is a 2-2-2 setup? so in total you can have 6 adults sitting in it?

It's kinda 2.5 back seat apart from the new model ones there 2-3-2.

I looked at the grand c-max, and it had no space in the boot for anything with 7 seats. so it was ruled out. I liked the citroen grande picasso, but the wife said it was too big. I liked the 5008, but is felt small inside. I was gearing towards the touran or a sharan, but prices were very high and spec was basic. I briefly checked out a renault grand scenic, it was nice but wife did not like it and it did feel cheap. We eventually got an S-max ( I really wanted a high spec one) eventually got a 163BHP Titanium x. once you see one you will only have desires for it! Half leather and looks well considering its a people carrier. I hated paddy spec s-max.
