I personally think Dave is great on 2 fm every weekend, it's the only radio show I look forward too! I drive a taxi so get to listen to a lot of radio. The only other presented that used to perk my interest in the same way was G. Ryan.

Dave should really have a weekday slot on RTE Radio and without doubt should have been Gerry Ryan's replacement. He filled in for Gerry since the show started in 1988.

Yeah that's true! Way better that tubs and especially Nicky and Jenny.

There's something about Dave. I'm a fan. I like his musical knowledge, enthusiasm and interviewing style.

He does seem to rub some people up the wrong way though. Perhaps the older sort of listener who resent him being the voice of 'alternative Ireland' in the 80's.

I don't know. He seems to be the sort they 'take off the shelf' when the core crew in RTE are off on their holidays. It's a shame. I think he could make a real success of an afternoon slot on 2FM. Let him at it.

After Gerry died 2fm drafted in lucy kennedy and colm hayes, neither with any talk radio experience while Dave's voicetracked music show continued weeknights.

I've only recently started listening to Dave on a weekend morning & I gotta say I really like him. The segment they had on yesterday talking about the history of the Trip to Tipp...Feile! Was brilliant - he had one of the lads from Saw Doctors & the main singer with Sultans of Ping FC (who is now a history lecturer in London) - it was made so much better with Dave's experience and good interaction with the guests.
I am definitely going to go back to his podcasts. But as a child of the 80's who enjoyed his night time alternative music radio show, I can see that he may not be everyones taste. I think he is better off not on a primetime slot to keep the integrity of the show & have more of the off the wall segments on the show than the crap that the usual 9-midday slots have to have to cater for everyone!

I wonder could fanning end up back on evenings on R1 in the autumn schedule ? His weekend chat show won't really suit 2fm anymore.

Dave ain't doing great. Must be a hex on the 9-10 slot.

Give Dave the 9 - 12 slot on 2fm at least then radio would be worth listening to at that time of day.

He will be covering the 12-1 slot for Ronan Collins next week.

    That's a weird one

Dave probably thinks it's cool in an ironic sort of way to be hosting the Ronan Collins show. He'll probably slip in a few Ramones songs on the sly to emphasise his coolness and his irrepressible rebellious streak.

I hope he has the Showband hits collection with him in his bag next week or the audience of over 200,000 at that time may not be happy.

Listened back to Dave filling in for Ronan and some of the artists he played were sex pistols, david kitt, chemical brothers and ash !!.

It's good to hear him doing a show like this, though would they not have got Larry to fill in for Ronan? I dont think Larry has been on Radio 1 since 2FM started..

He's not bad a talk show host, but the whole cool patronising thing turned me off him years ago, that and the dreary music he used to play.

He is playing a lot of gold in Ronan's place. You can't beat a bit of Taste.

In around 1996, the same Radio 1 slot each night (7.17-8) was taken up by a 'theme' show, e.g. 'Sounds Country', 'Sounds Folk', 'Sounds Live', 'Sounds Traditional' and I could swear that Larry presented the 'Sounds Gold'/'Sounds Golden' version.

He's playing some load of Shyte the last few days. Are RTE trying to lose listeners?

Think he is playing decent enough stuff

Maybe if I was half jarred at 3am or something it might sound good but I'm wondering what some farmer from Borrisokane coming in for his dinner in the middle of the day would make of it! I think it might even distract him when he's filling out his application form for some grant or other.

Not flying a flag for Dave but he is playing the tracks that Nova should be Unfortunately for those celebrating a 50th. wedding anniversary it's not intended for them. Ronan is back next week for that.
After St. Dominic's preview a look ahead to Liveline?

Definitely not a fan of Dave - but he's really good in this slot.

This music should be on the radio the whole time.
