Speeding Van Question

Does anyone know whether it's still the case that an unmarked GoSafe van can't give you a fine or penalty points - only the branded up ones with the chevrons on the back can?

Secondly, is there a way to tell from the speeding ticket you receive in the post, whether it was generated by a GoSafe or Garda camera van?

    Thanks

    Correct.

No. Only way to know would be to know the van that gave it to you or where it was located. Generally speaking, if you got it in a GoSafe zone, its likely GoSafe. It make no difference in the end however.

It was outside the GoSafe zone (on an adjacent road, so not sure if it was them being liberal with their territory, or a Garda van).

I thought that the Garda vans had camera logos on them too, but at night they'd be small enough not to be noticed.

If we asked for a copy of the photograph, would there be any identifying marks on that that would tell whether it was a Garda or GoSafe (by differences in the fonts or word placing associated with what model of camera is used)?

    Correct.

Really? I've never heard of that one.. from what I've seen they have a mix of marked and unmarked vans. Why wouldn't unmarked ones be able to issue fines/points?

My understanding was that the unmarked vans are survey vans used to identify new locations or measure the effect of the marked vans.

I thought that too when I shot passed an unmarked van and got the answer a few days later...

    This is correct.

Marked GoSafe = Must be in a zone to issue a fine
Unmarked GoSafe = Cannot issue a fine but can pop up anywhere

Marked & Unmarked Garda = Any road can issue a fine.

People seem to forget that GoSafe are not alone out there.
