    Hi

    Just wondering what you guys use in your workplace for video conferencing / audio conferencing.

    we currently use eircom for teleconferencing, and the price per month has been very expensive, mainly down to the volume of calls being made.

    i'm looking at other options, that would also incorporate Video confrencing, maybe something like webex, with the telecom phone in option so that users can dial a meeting if required.

    any advice or recommendations ? thanks!

    Depends on your requirements.

    Do you have and use video rooms systems? What are they, what are their capabilities?

    What level of service and usability are you expecting?

    Is the conferencing local(latency being a large issue with video)?


    Usually in the video world the following applies. Everything is great as long as you stay within the ecosystem of the product. Web-ex is great, as long as you're talking via web-ex. Lync is great, as long as you're talking via Lync. H323 room systems are great, assuming you are talking to other H323 systems. Telepresence systems are awesome, as long as their is one on the other end of the exact same manufacturer. You throw a phone in there, things can get a little iffy. You throw another system into the mix and something is guaranteed to not work. Its why the costs are so high.

    It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. Both gotomeeting and webex are good tools if everyone is using the same web/client interface and bandwidth isn't an issue.

    However it's really down to what users want
    - will everyone be on desktop/mobile devices or will room systems need to join
    - how will firewall traversal be managed
    - how and who will be sharing content
    - will you want to bring in people from outside your organisation onto video calls
    - what business functions will be using video
    - are there bandwidth constraints for home/remote workers
    - is there a UC strategy/programme in the business

    When planned and implemented successfully adoption of video can really take off and drive savings. In your case definitely reducing audio conferencing costs but potentially reducing travel costs.

    Most VC specialists will resell or offer their own version of Webex etc and can offer good advice on how to go about it

    We are starting to implement Zoom in our company and i would highly recommend it. We used to use Webex but were now pushing for all employees worldwide to use zoom instead
