Inheritance liability from N Ireland

    Hi all.

    In the case of someone living & working in the republic that inherits property from a family member in the north (grandmother and mother), does anyone have any idea of liability for inheritance tax? In both cases it's likely that the houses will be sold. Will there also be a CAT liability - both houses are mortgage free? Inheritance will also be split between 2 people (brothers).

    Obviously when it comes to the time of inheritance & sale we will get professional advice, but any guidance would be appreciated.

    If you wait until the time of inheritance there's little point in getting professional advice - it'd be like going to a doctor for medical advice after the patient has died.
