Renewing Learner Permit for the 3rd time

Hi, as the title says I am going to renew my learner permit this Saturday.
I got my 1st license after April 2011 so I have to do the 12 EDT lessons. I am in the middle of my lessons but my 2nd license is about to expire.
I already booked a driving test online because it says i would need a letter for the 3rd learner's permit.

Now my question is for how long is the driving test letter valid? Assuming they would not give a test date until I finished my 12 EDT lessons.

If i'm renewing for my 4th learner's permit in the future will I pay 85 euros again to book for a new driving test, or can i show the same letter that I have now that says 12 EDT is still in progress?

Would like to hear from yous. Cheers!

There could well be another option but my thinking is:
~ You've now paid for your driving test to renew your licence
~ You've to finish your 12EDT lessons first
~ You then have to wait the 6-months after the lessons are finished.

    Now,
Should you get called for your test before the above ^^^ then you're Best/Possibly Only option would be to postpone in sufficient time i.e. give at least 10-days notice.
The driving letter stating you've applied for your test is only valid until you get called for your test. See waiting times here for your area. You can postpone your test twice before you forfeit your fee and have to re-apply. That's how long it's valid. They call people for tests based on their list re:waiting times afaik & not on who can sit a test. They would assume since you've applied then you are available to take the test.

Should your 3rd learner permit expire & you've to renew again, hopefully you won't have postponed your test twice,
    otherwise
~ you will have to pay to apply for your test again.

    Hope that helps,

It's 6 months after you get your 1st learner permit, isn't it?

I needed to educate myself there on this EDT lessons/6-month-rule/renewing licence... Thanks :)

This states 6-months after the issuing date on your licence. Remind me, on a learner permit, does it state the original date 1st was applied for or does it state the date from the most recent permit that was applied for

    Thanks,

The start date on a learner permit will be the date you first held that category (assuming there haven't been any breaks of 5+ years). In this case, the OP will have a B start date of April 2011 and the 6 month rule won't be a factor.

@OP, the reality is you pay your €85 and apply for your test and you're issued your new permit so you can continue to complete your EDT lessons and take a practical test.

Your test application will go on 'EDT hold' as you have not completed your EDT. I believe you have to communicate to the RSA when your EDT is complete and you can will be issued your practical test date. As above, you can postpone twice (on top of the delay of being on EDT hold) and in all probability you will still have a valid test application to renew this time next year if you don't feel like you're ready for the test. The worst case scenario is that you have to pay €85 again next year.

There is no mechanism that will force you to take a test if you're not able to. You will always be able to renew your permit. The system allows you to continually postpone taking your test virtually forever if you are so inclined as long as you don't mind paying for permit renewals and test applications. Having said that, if you do the practical test and fail, you can hang onto your fail cert until your next permit renewal and get a 2 year permit instead of a 1 year permit.
