Im planning on a family holiday in Tenerife, where is a good destination on the island, i would prefer to stay in a complex that's not high rise, kids 7 & 5. not looking to be in the heart of the action but not isolated either.

i seem to be a bit overwhelmed on trip adviser, where to look etc,

any advice and/or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Hi - Go one line and do your research but 1st you need to know what you want or need for your family/group - We have arranged all our own travel & accommodation & car rental for Christmas and saved a lot of money. North of the Island is tropical and the south is the "Strip" - All depends what you want!

A happy compromise might be the area called Los Cristianos. Walking distance (30 minutes) from Las Americas but quieter and without the vomit-stained paths outside the pubs in the morning.

We went to Costa Adeje which is just above Playa de las Americas and we really enjoyed it. Still plenty of bars and restaurants but not as fast paced as Playas de las Americas. Quite near Siam Park which is highly recommended!

plan on going in peak season, july/august, will be looking for 2 bed apartment in a complex, that can sleep 6, preferably not in a high rise complex.

thanks for previous recommendations, currently trawling though the net for reviews and the like.

if you are going july/august i wouldn't really recommend Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos with young kids. those areas get over-run with the irish/british/german party holiday-makers that time of year

Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island is probably a better bet this time of year. San Andrés is just outside the capital santa cruz and has the best beach by far on the island

if you want to stay closer to the south then el medano is right next to the airport and a short drive (or public bus) away from Playa de las Americas/Los Cristianos

    Hi,
Have a look at this complex, Parque Santiago 3.

    http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/parque-santiago-3/

I have been there many times. I also recommended it to friends of mine and they have been going there with their 2 young kids for the last 8 years! When the kids were younger they used to book the ground floor apartments which have a walled in garden / patio area.

It is right on the beach, has plenty do around there but is not in the 18-30s club land. There is a promenade going a for a few miles each way, so there is lovely walks along the coast. It is only about 15 or 20 minutes to the airport, so we usually book the accomodation and then get separate flights and take a taxi from the airport to the apartment.

Here are the reviews on tripadvisor too.

    Best of luck
    JT.

Hi all, I hope I am not hi jacking this thread, looking for advice also, looking into going to the canaries at Christmas, I am told Tenerife / grand canaria best for weather, least wind etc, never been at Xmas so don't know what to expect. Have two small kids 7&2 . Will the pools be anyway warm? Is there kids clubs at that time of year? Any recommendations of place to stay ? Would we need a heated pool? Etc.

    Thank you....

Probably worth pointing out that Las América & Los Cristianos, whilst being side-by-side, are not the same. Las Américas attracts the younger crowd for sun and nightlife while Los Cristianos is families & the older brigade in the main.

Puerto de la Cruz (in the north) attracts mountain walkers & older germans moreso and cloud cover can be an issue there, even in summer. Teresitas beach in Santa Cruz is a quality beach but prone to being windy.

All told, Los Cristianos or the smaller, more laid back resort of El Medano (near the south airport) are best options for families IMO.

Bear in mind though that no matter where you go on the island, Tenerife isn't a clubbing island like Ibiza.

Heated pools depends on the hotel. Some have them, some don't so best to check before booking. Kids clubs, to the best of my knowledge, operate year round. Los Cristianos/Las Americas are the resorts best for Winter sun on Tenerife.
