My wife is currently working in Liberia for 2 months. When her time there comes to end, she is going to have 4 weeks R&R before coming back to work in the US. The vacation will start from 1st September

I likewise will be able to take that amount of time off from work, and we're looking into what to do. She wants to leave the organizing to me as a)the internet where she is is flaky at best and b)she simply doesn't have time to organize things.

So the budget, outside of flights(her flight back is covered and I will use my miles) is 12000 EUR. The plan is for me to fly meet her at our destination (she will fly there from Liberia)

She said she'd like a mix of things and wouldn't even mind a mixture of countries. The first week HAS to be a beach or resort that she can relax in.

I am kind of at a loss. We've been to Rwanda/Burundi before - and she has wanted to do a safari for a number of years.

Would Kenya tick our boxes? What about South Africa/Namibia.

From a weather perspective where would be a good place to go.

Something to bare in mind is that the South Africa and Namibia will just be coming out of winter at the start of September so the weather might not be ideal. Both are amazing places, Namibia wouldn't have a beach resort as such but there would be beautiful safari lodges with pools etc that you could enjoy. South Africa is very well developed for tourism.

Tanzania has Zanzibar/Pemba for the beach and then you could get a flight to Arusha for a safari to the Serengeti. This wouldn't be the cheapest option but would get your beach and safari.

Malawi is a beautiful country often called Africa for beginners due to the friendly, English speaking locals. There are some safari parks and game reserves where you could be the only people around and the whole lake is beautiful. You could spend the first week anywhere along the lakeshore or on one of the two islands in the lake.
